Hey Guys,

Just thought i'd share a recent survey that was sent to me via the Qantas Advisory Panel. Thought i'd sign up to it a while ago.

In regards to Internet on Domestic flights.

This survey aims to gain a greater understanding of your connectivity requirements on domestic flights. Connectivity is the ability to access the Internet, make voice calls or send text messages using your mobile phone or personal electronic device (e.g. laptop and iPad)

Your feedback will help us align our connectivity services with the needs and preferences of our customers.

This survey will take approximately 5 minutes to complete and will be available to complete until 30 June 2011.

Has anyone else received it at all?

They can't even get WiFi working in the lounges and they want to provide it in the air?

Yup. Got it too. Interesting.

The thing that makes in-flight wi-fi useful in the USA is gogo. The problem is, that gogo is land-to-air based internet, which is easy to do in the USA where the population covers the entire country. Base stations are easy to place everywhere.

In Australia, it's mainly desert. It's not going to happen. They'll need Satellite internet (like the Boeing Conexxion system that was shelved). It's not wonderful, but at least if they got the right setup it would work over water too (the only downfall of the gogo system).

I was honest about it. If they got it, it would be a big decider for me. I mainly do transcon runs, and internet in-flight would help the hours fly by, if you'll pardon the pun ;)

I got it, and the thought of in-flight connectivity does not excite me one bit, so responded accordingly.

I guess the upside is in the air there would be less users on the system than in the lounge, although I guess it depends if it is provided free or at a cost.

FWIW, I used it once on a VX flight because it was a novelty, but honestly I would only pay for it for a long haul flight, and then this survey only asks for domestic so I doubt I'd use it, unless it was free.

On the topic of the wifi in the QPs - I don't even bother anymore, I just use the NextG connections on my iPhone & iPad, and it's 10x faster and 100x more reliable than the wifi.

The idea of inflight connectivity is the worst possible thing that could happen to long haul air travel in my opinion. I love settling into my seat, and knowing for 8-14 hours, no new emails, no phone calls... HEAVEN! When at home, I'm constantly connected like most of us, but long haul flights are truly a relief!

I have used GoGo in the US on a couple of short flights, and that was handy.

The issue of using your phone on the plane, please no! I was stuck in the the first class lounge this week in Auckland when some guy basically yelled down his phone for almost 3 hours! I know where he works, what we wants to earn, the value of his house, where his wife shops, the profit margin of this business and so much more! The only relief was when this guy got on the plane!

I love technology, but let's be smart with it's use in the air!

I totally agree about phone calls, and even text messaging (particularly when people don't turn the key sounds off on their phones) - it's only Internet that I would like to see on long haul.

domestically, my blackberry has internet connection about 50% of the time and I send emails and read the news without too much hassle, might have to wait 5 minutes for reconnection

And I dont pay for that

The phone rings occasionally (on silent) but I dont answer it, cause I would get caught, and it would drop out and annoy the person on the ground.

of course I could cause the plane to crash by doing this
