Hey guys!

I think I was just given a semi-complimentary upgrade from gold to platinum by velocity (990 SC) - yay!

Now...I qualified for a renewal of my gold membership in March 2016 to March 2017, but now I've only got platinum until December 2016 as I got upgraded a few days ago. If I don't earn 400 SC by December 2016 (less travelling ability this year due to work), will I move down a level to Gold or drop all the way down to red?

Thanks in advance for your input :)

There is a 'soft landing' so unless you get 800SCs before Dec 16 you will drop to Gold. This is also regardless of Eligible Sectors. You will also get another chance to choose hotel/carhire options when you fall

soft landing sounds great, looks like i'm covered with at least gold until December 2017 :)

Cheers!

just to clarify, if you hit platinum in December 2016 you'll be platinum until Dec 2017. But if you don't hit requalification then Dec 2017 onwards you'll drop to gold until Dec 2018.

It's still 400 sc to requal gold during the 2018 yr to keep gold for 2019?

On the same note- I will qualify (based on my current planned flights) for silver on April 30 which is coincidentally the day that 20 points expire.

I have a short flight booked in May. Would that flight count towards requalifying for Silver, or would it go towards getting Gold, or both?

As it is a rolling system it will do both

Is this still common practice?

I have a trip coming up that will put me at 990, but I have carefully planned it this way as I don't want to become Platinum until later this year so that my flights during late next year help me requalify.

Sounds crazy, but is there a way to reject the upgrade if it happens or should I play it safe and pool a few points elsewhere for the time being? Also, what is the threshold for these comps. I've read some people gotten Plat at 980.

Cheers.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

You won't be able to reject a move up a Tier. If you would like to defer suggest family pooling or crediting to another FF program. Make sure not too many of your current SCs expire in the meantime

I got upgraded to platinum with 975 on Christmas Day last year!

Don't forget that SC's expire on a rolling 12 month basis, so be sure that the 990SC's you have now won't suddenly make a drop before later in the year.
