Hi all,

So we have accumulated QFF points quicker then I imagined thanks to some great sign-on bonuses and friendly AFFer's using my AMEX referral link.

I believe in the next few months mrs rock and I will have nearly enough points to travel some first class legs, when we were only planning on using the 280k OWE J award (we've yet to even travel in business long haul). At present, due mainly to work, we only really have time to do a couple of cities in USA and probably a short stopover in HKG on the way back home.

So my question to you good people - is it worth using those additional points and flying right at the pointy end and have access to some of the specials lounges I'm always reading about, or just stick with the J OWE and save the points for another J cabin trip?

Depends on whether you have any other planned use for the points. If not, than I reckon go for it - but beware any future flying in J, and heavens forbid, whY will be a real downer :) .

BUT - have you checked award seats available when you want to travel? Can be difficult to snag, especially if you don't have status (Plat and above can request seats be released), if travelling QF. I don't think you will get F HKG to Oz of course.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I'm hearing what you are saying, and that is why I will continue to rotate CC's for myself + partner and continue to look for cheap point/paid premium travel.

We're very flexible and haven't decided on a definitive time we will be travelling, I've got no status but have seen pockets of QF F pop up in a few searches I have run. Otherwise we'll be happy to go through the ME.

Getting a 280K J award is hard work if you want to truly max it out.

You need to read this thread: Wiki - "oneworld" award (140K/280K/420K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

Have done lot's of research on this and plus been on that wiki page many times, so I'm pretty confident now of locating flights and routing's for when I want to pull the trigger.

If you haven't been F before, and you have the points, go for it! There's still a fairly big difference between the cabins, and the right choice of F legs will get you some good ground service. If you can do a CX F out of HKG, BA F out of LHR, a JL F transpac on the way home it would be a good use.

My advice to ANYONE who loves flying, and can swindle it, is to do a once-in-a-lifetime F Emirates experience on an A380. Have got points tickets to the USA via Dubai. As Rooflyer said, nothing will ever be the same again. But do it :)

SOLD!

I have been umming and arring about your actual post. People say it's gawdy etc. - but it just looks so freaking cool!

I have actually been looking at some routes and as US first timers with a relatively short window this time round at minimum we want to visist New York, Vegas & San Fran. So with those cities - EK F to JFK, then J US domestic & back home with CX J, it comes in at 367,000 points each and availability seems good most times except peak seasons (and only an extra 5,000 points if we were lucky enough to jag a QF F from LAX).

I think that's the goal then, ahhh why did I ever join AFF, I'm never going to be able to fly Y again, haha.:p:p
