Hi all

Now this is going to seem strange but I am trying to put together some basic instructions for my boss who is flying into Sydney at the end of this week - arriving from HKG in J on CX. The problem I have is that I do my arrivals with my brain in neutral pretty much - off the olane, two bottles of Bombay Sapphire, express immigration, express quaratine and into the waiting car. As such I don't know what it is like for a newbie arriving into SYD.

I am going to send him a copy of the ePass to makes sure he nags the staff for one - I am just wondering what else I should advise him of. For a start I am not even sure where he would go to get a cab :)

Any useful tips (aside from no checked luggage which I dont think will be an option for him) for people arriving from the US into SYD?

Cheers

You could include a map of the airport, but I think it would be unnecessary as the arrivals area is fairly well signposted. I would :

  • advise him where the ATM is in the terminal so that he can get some cash,
  • advise him not to bring in anything that he will need to declare (so that he can use the express card) - you may need to fill him in on what items he needs to declare on entry to Oz rather than have him wait until he boards the plane and gets the arrivals card,
  • tell him where to find the express line (far right after baggage carousels).
  • let him know about the Gold ambassadors if he has any questions at the airport - ie. look for the Gold coats to answer questions

I have a tame driver in Sydney who is very reliable - if you want his details, I can supply them, that way he will be greeted on exiting customs and walked to the waiting car - then taken direct to his hotel or to work or where ever he wants to go. Otherwise, the taxi rank is pretty easy to find. Also let him know that Taxis/Hire cars in Oz accept credit cards and do not expect a tip.
