Iceland was calling, aka This is not Africa....

The photo guide booked, by the restaurant staff reaction he's a regular.

Not liking this guide at all but hubby likes him on a photograph geek level so keeping my opinion to the myself

Yesterday the words, "will toss you in the water in a second you blank blank" where muttered by me at some point that he annoyed me again.

During dinner he's disparaging towards other photographers (framed photos on the wall) and tour companies and he constantly talking about his various health issues and financial situation. Uggh, telling myself I just have to get through today and never see him again
Is this the diabetic guide/driver from the other excursion?

Yes and it's not that he's diabetic but it seems like he's not in a good place with it and some of his reading have been dangerously low. As a multiple day/overnight client he should have told us as we're responsible for him if he has a medical issue.

Plus I just don't like him so keeping that to myself. Just telling myself to get through today and don't say anything to hubby as he's having a good time taking photos

It sounds as if you are finding the landscapes in Iceland pleasing though and are not disappointed that you chose it over Africa. :)
You are making me want to revisit but MrLtL is not ready to make decisions on where to travel yet till after latest set of pathology and specialist so can't make any plans. On top of that my mother seems to be fading quite rapidly so it might be a matter of going to her place on a roster as a carer.
Sigh - the place looks more wonderful than I remember it.

Driving through acres and acres of flat land, covered in black sand and gravel, I wonder what the first Vikings thought when they showed up. No trees, no animals, no food only lava fields cold wind and icy water

I just can't imagine what it would be like to spend 24hrs outdoors without our boots and polartec, kitkats and wifi

kitkats ??
Picked up some at the servo. Just in case I feel like saying something to the guide, I shove a choc in my mouth. Going to gain a few kilos at this rate. :)

Today's new health issue is dodgy hip. The more he complains, the more I ignore. This must be how hubby deals with me :p

These are not ponies, these are Icelandic horses. The line is so pure and protected that if one leaves the country it can never return to Iceland. They can live in -25c temps

Fun fact. In 982 the law was passed banning importation of horses and these have little to no immunity against disease.

Pretty sure if I had the hip movement of a Rockette, I could be on one of these and still standing but don't call them a pony, the locals get offended

Opposite from us is this waterfall, it's on private property so this is as close as you can get. Imagine this in your back yard

How to spot an Aussie in the wild? Look for Kathmandu jackets, it's a beacon of Aussie'ness.

My husband has faught me this entire trip about wearing his Gortex jacket and just now about wearing rain pants. People are coming back drenched so I hope at some point point, standing behind that curtain of freezing water, he thinks to himself "I hate it when she's right".

And the wind is so strong, I had to go sit in the car because the wind is throwing small rocks at me. The wind hurt my face and now it's rocking the car

This is the waterfall that you can walk behind the curtain of water.

They were tough people, for sure.
I was told that things basically didn't change from the 800s until the Americans turned up during WW2.

I think you'll find that Kathmandu is a NZ company (Christchurch headquarters but now American owned) but because they are generous they let Aussies wear them.
