This Ibis opened in downtown Hobart not long ago, in a new building. Very convenient to an evening event I was attending in the city, so it was good to try it.

Rooms come in Standard, Superior and Deluxe. I chose a Deluxe with queen bed, priced at only $125 (mid week, middle of winter). Breakfast was available but I had other plans, so didn't take it.

As an Accor gold, I got an e-mail the day before asking if I need to reserve anything, including car parking. I did, and as I read that there was only limited parking on site (at cost) (otherwise you can park at a multi-story car park 300m away), I appreciated that, and booked a spot for $20. By the look of it, there are about 30, maybe 50 spaces available under the hotel. They also had no problems with me checking in really early (11am) and leaving the car there for the day as well as the night.

Reception is pretty open - there are 3 temp parking spots out the front while you check in. I got 2 welcome drink vouchers.

Room was on the top floor, at the end of the corridor, as I requested (for quiet).

Room was pretty basic (Ibis, remember), but perfectly adequate for a night.

There was a fudge bar and a water as welcome gifts. The safe just took my 15" laptop.

As i was going out for the evening, I decided to have dinner at the hotel before I headed out.

Bar area is nice; at the end there is the restaurant.

Restaurant looked good, but here had the only significant fail. When I said I was just one, I was 'invited' to sit at the central communal table. I said that i'd rather have one of the tables for 2 (it being early, there were plenty available). Was told that if I wanted an individual table, i'd have to sit out in the bar area "as we might get bust later". Bit my tongue and didn't say "Maybe, but you are busy with me, right now."

i didn't have to bump elbows with anyone at the communal table, but the tin of cutlery was a bit naf.

I didn't get a pic of the menu, but it wasn't bad - a lot better than you would expect at an Ibis. Being downtown, I guess they are pitching to the general restaurant trade as well.

Entree salmon ceveche. Chunks, not slices was described on the menu) and didn't really work for me, but OK.

A Malaysian curry dish, again OK, generous portion but it also didn't work that well. Another issue for me was that they didn't clear away the finished entree dish. Just slid it out of the way when they put down the main and there it stayed until I left. Staff were young and not a lot of experience I guess. Again, at an Ibis, its not a big fail.

The tables for two that couldn't have? Several remained unoccupied up to the time I left.

The sleep was good and checkout was painless.

Overall, as a simple place to stay in downtown Hobart, I'd give this place 9/10 for value, and 7/10 for amenity and comfort (remembering that it bills itself as 4 star) although I see that prices for midweek in October start from abt $210 up to $240 and for Feb next year start at $178 to $210. That would be excellent value in February but no doubt will rise as the season approaches.

Great report. Thanks for posting.
