I rarely stay at a Hyatt, but I just received this email, for those that care. Sounds like an "enhancement" :p

The Hyatt Gold Passport® Award Chart will be updated on January 7, 2014 and we want to give you plenty of advance notice so you can plan your next great getaway.

We are introducing a new Category 7, which includes six Park Hyatt hotels in cities such as Paris, Tokyo and Sydney, and requires 30,000 points. We are also changing the number of points required to redeem a Free Night Award for standard rooms and upgraded rooms in select categories.

In addition, 38 hotels are shifting between categories. This includes 21 hotels moving to a higher category and 17 hotels moving to a lower category. Existing reservations for stays starting January 7, 2014, will receive a refund for the point difference if the hotel moved to a lower category.

Lastly, the points required to upgrade your paid stay to a Regency Club®/Grand Club® room or suite will now be on a per-night basis.

As always, we will continue to make redemption as easy as possible with no blackout dates. And if we have a standard room available at any location, on any day of the year, you're more than welcome to reserve it with your Hyatt Gold Passport points.

There's plenty of talk with Jeff Zidel on MP and FT (he's the head of Hyatt Gold Passport).

General consensus is that it could have been worse. It's a bit of a slap in the face for me, after I just stayed 22 nights in October and got the bonus 50k points in the latest promo. I guess those 50k will offset the increased cost of the nights I was going to book.

It's certainly not as bad as SPG where the top tier resorts can cost up to 140k a night (and Hilton wanted that for a night at the SYD Hilton in December as well, in a standard room!).

Hilton do hand out points like candy though.

Biggest lost was the upgrade points fee to a club room.

It was excellent value when you could upgrade to a club room floor for a total of 3,000 up to 4 nights.

After 7th Jan 2014, it will be 3,000 per night.

perhaps in the future we will see more bonus points options.

Te change from 3k per stay to 3k per night for the room upgrade and the 35% increase for six hotels is incredible.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
