HSBC Star Alliance credit card in Australia

Has anyone had issue receiving the bonus 50,000 points from Star Alliance?
It's been over 8 weeks since I qualified.

I've already been able to convert some star alliance points to aeroplan points but I never received the bonus so I don't think its an account linking issue.

HSBC advised me that the bonus points come from Star Alliance and not HSBC. They've advised to contact Star Alliance but there is no contact email, number or other means of contacting them.

There's a customer contact form on their website but it will not let you proceed because one of the mandatory drop down menus has no options. No difference on different browsers or device.

It's a bit bizarre.

Caution for the people trying to find the 50K bonus offer - its been a bit of a hassle so far for a fairly modest number of points.

@Alex Bear, they'll appear in your Air Canada account, not your Star Alliance account. Check there. Also can take up to 3-4 months.
Yeah I've been checking both Star Alliance rewards and the aeroplan accounts.

It seems like everyone is getting their points at the 6-8 week mark but I'm not in a rush.

I wasn't I was too bothered but I had some free time and went to check with HSBC to make sure I didn't miss something regarding qualifying criteria or some spend issue.
That's when HSBC told me they had nothing to do with the bonus points and to contact Star Alliance directly. When I went to send a follow up message to them, and they are literally uncontactable, which I think is funny and a bit frustrating.

I also haven't been seeing advertising for the aeroplan points offer and that had me a bit worried regarding Star Alliance issuing the points.

Just to check, @Alex Bear: Did you nominate Aeroplan as your status airline? Because that was a necessary condition. (I think it's actually being run from Aeroplan's end and you won't get any joy from Star Alliance even if you reach them.)

Applied this morning approved this afternoon.

One question, obviiously will select Aeroplan for 50,000 points and star alliance gold. But for the points I accrue from spending, can I redirect those to Singapore Airlines from the star alliance account. Thanks

Yeah you can but the earn rate on the card is a bit sad...
Unless you've got a bunch of SAL points already, I'd keep them all together.

The real benefit of Aeroplan option is getting status until the end of 2025 if you sign up now.

In regards to the points earn:

$1= 1 star alliance point up to $3000 and 3000 points.
After 3000 the earn rate is $1 = 0.5 star alliance points.

1000 star alliance points = only 800 Aeroplan or Singapore Airlines points

First $3000 = 2400 Star alliance or aeroplan points
Then every $1000 after = only 400 star alliance points

When they want you to spend $60,000 a year to maintain status, you're only earning 38,400 points with the airline (and if you spend optimally spread out each month through the year).

You could get 60,000 - 90,000 Qantas points with lots of other cards.

True, but 38k aeroplan points is just short of an award to asia in business class one way. With taxes and no fuel surcharges.

60k on qantas might only get you to bali, and with fuel surcharges on top.

Not to mention instant phone answering with aeroplan as a 50k, and instant ticketing, and properly issued tickets :)

spot on. You are so right. But PPl keep comparing orange to apple hahahha.

For those having difficulty contacting Star Alliance through their portal, I've had success via email [email protected] But I'd suggest patience, things happen...slowly.
Or call their call centre. Not long waiting because of status. I just waited couple minutes I guess and called regarding family pooling. And No, FP it's not available yet.

Star alliance call centre? Or Aeroplan?

I wouldn’t worry about the points coming through… they will come. Not sure trying to track them down by calling aeroplan is going to be worth the effort?

aeroplan call centre if anyone wants to check on their 50K areoplane points - just suggesting. But their points do take a lot of time to arrive.

Applied for this card and was conditionally approved. Sent in payslips and bank statement after a phone call from them saying submit asap so we can fast track your application and as requestedI sent through promply and was knocked back, first ever credit rejection. Salery over 100,000.00 per annum around $90,000 in cash savings clear on bank statement, small mortgage on a on $2.5 million home plus other assets and was a little stunned I was rejected. Only 1 credit card at the moment which is a Amex with a zero balance and paid every month without fail. Askd for minimum credit which was $6000.00. Go figure

Whats the $ amount of the mortgage outstanding (excluding any offset accounts), what is the limit on your amex?

The level of assets you have generally doesn't get taken into account, they assess serviceability based on income.

Mortgage is under $150,000, fully renovated good suburb, ocean views 900sqm block. Amex has $15,000 never missed a payment on mortgage or credit cards and never had a credit rejection, 60yo. Still a bit shocked tbh, applied as we have a 7 week european holiday booked and was looking for the benifits this card offered for such a trip with all the internal European flights we have booked.

That is surprising, Ask for a review maybe? Did you make an error on your application?

Are you able to see your points for individual transactions or do you just have to wait until the end of month to see what were eligible transations. Want to buy some gift cards for minimum spend but not sure how HSBC will code these

Has anyone done the maths on this card for various ATO payment portals? I've got an eye watering bill to pay, trying to see where I'll get most bang for my buck.

Wish there was an easy way to see what my spend was already to see how close I am to 60k ....
