How to opt out of adjoining hotel rooms?

One thing I dislike with hotels is when you book a single room and get given an adjoining room. Sure, the door between the rooms is locked on both sides, but you can still hear a lot of the noise coming from the neighbouring room.

Do the main hotel chains offer a way to state in your preferences that you don’t want an adjoining room?

With Accor, you can add free text of preferences with each booking - such as "Away from elevators" , so I guess you could also ask there, but given most of the check-n staff don't seem to know the basic lay-outs of their hotels, it probably wouldn't be effective.

Might one scenario where OLCI could be useful - assuming the floor shows which rooms are not “adjoining”?

Nice! I've just added "Non Connecting Rooms" to my Accor profile.

I wonder if any other hotel programs give you this option?

I recall that the GM of the former Hilton Brisbane put a similar entry into my profile after I had mentioned this. Nothing that I could view, but he said that it was done.

I just checked into a Radisson hotel, and they "upgraded" me to a superior room. Which is nice, except I walked in and found it was a connecting room. I could even hear the TV of the room next door from inside my room.

So I walked back to reception and politely asked if I could switch to a non-connecting room. He immediately moved me to a room about twice the size which is non-connecting, and said he'd make a note on my profile of that preference. He thinks the note will only stick at that specific hotel though, rather than being on my Radisson Rewards profile.
