Is there any easy way to find QR award availability. I’ve tried the AA and QR sites (I’m a member of both the Advantage and Privileges) and never see any award flights (J or Y) for a range of itineraries (eg CNS/BNE to LON/BCN/MAN) with flexible dates around 25 Sep to 20 Oct but nothing comes up. I would like to find QR awards and then call and use my Qantas points to book. Am I missing something?
Ideally I want to get a J award for my wife and then I’ll buy a Y for me. Any hints or help much appreciated.

Why aren't you just using the QF site?
Availability over those school holiday dates, released some time ago, will likely be an issue.
QR release at about 360 days I think

I use BA to search for QR awards, sometimes it doesn't show flights that are more than two segments ie BNE>ADL>DOH>BCN might not show if you search terms are BNE>BCN.

I've just done a quick search for BNE>DOH and found availability via ADL on 25/9, 29/9, 3/10, 5/10. SYD on 30/9 & MEL on 26/9, 28/9, 29/9.

If you can then find a connection that works, try booking through QF site, if that doesn't work you'll need to call and explain that you were unable to book online so they should charge you any fees.

Thanks. I have tried QF but only see QF, JS and EK flight awards. I may have to go that way but EK Y fares (mine) are quite a bit more expensive than QR fares. I do appreciate the advice and will give it a go.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Many thanks for your reply. Very helpful. I’ll try for separate segments. Given QR current low loads (due to the Saudi action) I would have thought there would be a reasonable number of QR awards. There certainly are a lot of well-priced Y fares.

I just tried MEL>BCN on the 26th of Sept which has availability in J. Change the search to BNE>BCN and the only QR options that appear are via Perth.

You seem to be really knowledgeable about QR so Thankyou. So a question. We want to travel to Larnaca next December using award points. If I can’t get the full segment ADL-DOH-LCA on award but have to pay for the sector DOH-LCA, (so separate PNR) when we check in at Adelaide will Qatar book our luggage through to final destination?

(we are then catching a flight on the same day to Tel Aviv but we know we will collect luggage and do immigration at LCA then recheck. We are allowing a few hours gap)

It’s interesting that QR release at 360 days out and Qantas being a little later so U fares could be snapped up before we can see them on Qantas?

I wouldn't say I'm really knowledgeable about QR. I've just been doing a lot of searching for personal flights and helping the in laws book their RTW so have seem some little quirks :)

I don't know the definite answer to your question but I suspect that they will book your luggage all the way through if you can show your PNR for the 2nd leg at ADL.

Out of curiosity I've checked flights from ADL>DOH>LCA and can see J availability daily in November until the 20th (336 days) which is where the J seats dry up. There are Y seats available up to the 3rd of December (349 day). I have found a J flight for 2 from MEL on the 14th of December. I'd snap that up asap if you're flexible and can fly out of MEL. Otherwise I'd be checking daily to see if anything opens up from ADL.

I am really specific and yes that’s what I’d noticed. We can only fly out Christmas Day evening! Either that or we miss a day of our Israel tour. Or fly out Christmas lunchtime. If it was a Thursday there is a night CX flight but not on the Wednesday flight. There is one option where we fly into Tel Aviv first thing arriving 27th. Flights not opened up yet but I’m doing all the pre research. Thanks for your info. :) We could also find some EK flights but I hate their 777. Fussy much?

Again, many thanks. I do appreciate members spending their time to help others.

QR flights are released on QF site at this time - so you can book the QR at 360, on QF (assuming availability).
If say you could get PER-DOH, you could lock that in, but would have to wait for 353 for the QF ADL-PER releaase to connect, and add it on
