Hi there,

With my velocity points I booked 4 business class tickets to Los Angeles and 3 premium economy back to Sydney. No economy tickets were available on the return leg so I had to book premium and I only had enough points for 3 people. I want to borrow 50,000 points from my sister but I can't figure out how to do that.

She's happy to send them to me 50,000 points from her amex rewards and I'll somehow send them back to her velocity account say in 6 months time. Knowing amex points can only be transferred to your own velocity account, does anyone have any idea how we can achieve this points transfer? I'm hoping there is a way with family pooling route????

You dont need to do family pooling, just a family transfer

I used google, it's quite handy.

It can be done two ways ...

1. Sister sets up family pooling from her velocity account to brother's velocity account and does the transfer from MR. Once the points arrive into brother's velocity account family pooling can be turned off.

Or ...

2. Sister does the transfer from MR to her velocity account. Once the points arrive there she does a family transfer to brother's velocity account.

The second option is likely to be more strait forward.

In any case a simple family transfer from brother's acount back to sister's account to finish things.

Note that for this month of November there is a 15% bonus on MR to Velocity transfers so only about 43500 need transferring from MR to get 50000.

how long does it take for the bonus to register though? that could pose a problem

if you have the pooling setup beforehand, it will automatically transfer and it won't use up one of the 4 annual family transfers.

Yes but the OP just want's a simply family transfer, I don't believe his sister wants to pool all her miles/status credits to his account. She is loaning him 50,000 points. In this case the family transfer is what is required.

true, just presenting another option. AMEX usually only takes about 24hrs so I just setup family pooling for a short period if they aren't traveling - I switch it back before they travel, and if the transfer happens to come through then I have to do family transfer. I prefer keeping those up my sleeve for when I need to sweep through the non-frequently flying family members accounts and get any "less than 5000 points" amounts.
