Hi all,

I am 70 status points short of Platinum status.

I am flying to LA next week on business. When I arrive in Sydney, I should have accrued enough status points from Adelaide to just tip me into Platinum status (I'm due for a 20 status point loyalty bonus + 60 from Adelaide = 80 new points).

If I present my Gold card to the 1st class lounge will they let me in? I hope so, and can't see why not - just depends on how long it takes the Qantas site to register the flight I just got off.

I want to be spoiled :D

Hi impartiality and welcome to AFF!

Experiences vary but I beleive you should have access to the FCL if you show your SG card and explain the situation.

A printout of your details from QFF online may help and a friendly approach could not hurt. There is a "door guard" at SYD FCL so a quick chat should get you to the desk.

Good luck and enjoy the perks of being WP.

Whats the 20 status point loyalty bonus, AFAIK the only gifted SCs are those on special time limited offers, the loyalty bonus is 5000 points:

16 FEB 10 CONGRATULATIONS! LOYALTY BONUS 16FEB10 ---5,000 0

BTW points can sometimes post hours after the flight.

Ah damn, I misread:

Additional Status credits required to obtain next Loyalty bonus: 20

For some silly reason I thought it meant I gained an extra 20 SC

That means I will be 10 SC short prior to my long leg to LA. AFAIK I lose all ways - no 1st class lounge access, and no platinum points multiplier for the long leg.

Is there any way I can buy the frustrating 10 points I will be short?

quick trip to MEL and back would be the best way!

not easy considering you fly next week...but..

however you can do it saturday (tomorrow) afternoon/night for $190 return. worth it imo if you have the time tomorrow and can snag the $95 each way red e-deal before it goes.

How about a quick Adelaide-Port Lincoln trip :)?

You've just missed the $49 promo.

You've just missed the $49 promo.

That was for later in the year after next week anyway.

But I’d definitely try fit in a small trip somewhere, rack up those SC’s as quickly as you can so hopefully you can get into the F lounge next week. Would be so worth it!

A good friend of mine had a similar situation where they were WP but some AA flights had not yet posted for their LAX-MEL leg.

You have zero chance of getting into F lounge if your boarding pass does not say oneworld emerald. This has been tried and tested at both LAX oneworld lounge and MEL domestic J lounge.

Your domestic leg will take ~12 hours to show up on your profile so it won't go through in time for your -> LAX leg unfortunately, however you will get the multiplier of points because it will go through after you technically are platinum.

So all youreally miss out on is an onboard greeting and a possible 1% OP UP chance.

To be honest, going to take a very non-FF esque view hear, but if you're seriously thinking about spending some money (such as $190) to get to to WP before the flight - think again. You'll get some nicer wine or champagne in the FCL (bearing in mind you will already get alcohol in the J lounge) and possible a three course meal, a better view, as well 3750 extra FF pts.

Given you're going to get Platinum anyway, for $190 you could actually go to a very good restaurant (more than likely food will be better than in the FCL for that money) and have a nice meal. Also I don't know what you're connection time is, but there's always a chance of being late, having long wait for transfer bus,etc so you may not get long in the lounge (if it all).

I'm going to nominate this post as the most anti - AFF post of the year... Discouraging someone from doing a status run, what the world coming to. :D

That said, I do agree with you, $190 for a couple of hours in the F lounge, when the OP is going to get WP anyways does seem rather steep.

When you arrive at the airport, try going to the J lounge and explaining the situation with reception (that this flight will push you into WP) they might allow you to go up to the F lounge in that case provided you are polite, and ask in a non-demanding way. (I've been allowed into lounges which I didn't have access to in similar situations before by asking nicely). Don't try to go straight to the F lounge as the door guard will probably stop you, and will kill any chances you have of going up there. The worst they can do is say no, in which case you'd still have J lounge

I have to agree there ;)

Personally, it depends on how you got your status and how flush with cash you are. If you're a SFSC and have deep pockets, go for it and have some fun specially if you love your air travel.

Otherwise, don't worry about it and enjoy the pleasures on the way home.

I have to disagree with this. I find it very easy to drink at least $70-80 worth of Champagne, have a 3 course meal and a nice massage thrown into the deal (although harder at SYD than MEL, but it can be done).

It's always a very nice way to start a lengthy trip!

If the OP were located in SYD, sure they could get to the airport early and use all the facilities in the FCL. Unless on a really early flight from ADL where it would probably would be OK as there would be plenty of time in the lounge, but for most connections (especially if just missing a transfer bus), it can really limit time in the lounge and ability to take full advantage of the services. And it's not as if the OP doesn't get access to the J lounge to enjoy what is on offer there. Sure the food at the lounge is exceptional by lounge standards, but really in the wider restaurant world it would not earn chefs hats in the good food guide I suspect. At SYD is more like a nice cafe than a top restaurant.
