Hi all,

Now I have the Citibank Signature Card I'm hoping to actually use them for Krisflyer.
Joined in 2012 and never used the card and it was cancelled by Singapore.
Rejoined today and looking to push 100k of points a year onto it at 1.5:1 right?

So will that get me upgrades in future and there is no expiry as long as you add points how frequently?
Do bigger points balance get a different colour card?

So how many points you guys got....COVE heee hee heee

Hi all,

So how many points you guys got....COVE heee hee heee

I've got the sum total of about 800 points! I spent my balance on suite savers HKG-SIN-SYD and had to top up by purchasing 1000 points to do so.

I'm sure there's some people out there with more points than that. (smile)

I'm off to NZ next week and will put the points to my new TK Elite account. That plus my next European trip will see me Gold for the foreseeable.

Plant we have been working the credit cards for the best flights and you have to get a complete turnover of your Kris Flyer account just inside three years. If you don't do that then the three year point expiry kicks in and your account will be reduced by removing three year old points.
Yes it is a challenging concept and sydunipete is absolutely on the correct path.

mmm that is a challenge for us small fish....3 years grrrrr might go the Madonna root(Like a VIRGIN)
No expiry hey?
So whats the cheapest Singapore ticket you can use Kris to upgrade.....any of the cheap deal fares or does it have to be full fare economy?

It might be late but how do these two charts read?
1. One way save rewards...actually more to go from Australia to West Coast USA than East coast? Zone 9 to 13/14 is that how you read it.....Suites but business saver less...100K in points one way.
2. Upgrade why is FULL(fare) more than saver in points required 110K to upgrade from economy to Business?
Confusing confusing

Concentrate on Singapore to Los Angeles and run up points to do that in business or first saver. Upgrades are not totally reliable so you may end up in economy on the long haul.

As Cove mentioned, KF miles expire 3 years after they are earned (ie 3 years after you transfer from Citi in this case), but they can be extended once only for 6 months at a cost (paid with points). Also, bear in mind that if you plan to book award tickets, they just have to be ticketed before the miles expire, you don't have to fly before the expiry date. All things considered, this means miles earned now could in theory be used for flights over 4 years from now.

There is no expiry with Citi Rewards points though, so another option is to leave the points there until you need to use them, but that could have its own risks - ie Citi continuously changing the rules without necessarily telling anyone about it. There is some concern that at some stage Citi will devalue the conversion rate to KF miles, although it hasn't happened yet for Signature or Select. For this reason some AFFers are now transferring Citi rewards points to KF on a monthly basis.

Do bigger points balance get a different colour card?

No. You only move up the tiers by earning "elite miles" - equivalent to QF status credits - which you can only do by flying. And you won't earn any elite miles on award tickets. You will earn elite miles for the original booked fare if you buy a Y ticket and use miles to upgrade. However, it will take a lot of Y flights to get Gold status with SQ, and silver is hardly worth bothering with. Hence people looking for Star Alliance status tend to credit to other programs such as TK, as mentioned by Pete above. But if your plan is to amass as many KF miles as possible and travel in J or F, you don't need status! IMHO status is really only useful when flying in Y.

EDIT: PS, if you are looking for status, SQ Gold does have a significant advantage over Gold with other Star Alliance programs - SQ gold get lounge access etc when flying domestically with VA.

I had 880 KrisFlyer miles and now I have just enough for a one-way business BKK-SYD or 2 and a bit returns in economy BKK-SYD.

Too indecisive.

You probably already know this but IMO, Y award tickets are rather worthless on SIA. The YQ is like 50% of what you would have paid for if you had purchased a discount Y ticket. So much for the recently enhanced TPP benefits with regards to Y awards...

Totally understand your point. My dilemma is I transferred them with the intention of redeeming business but after thinking it through I realised the points are wasted in business as last time on SQ I slept through the entire flight. I can sleep just as easily in economy.

Anyway at the moment the important thing for me is to be able to maximise trips to Thailand. If things work out the way I hope I would probably want to visit 5-6 times a year and need to save as much as I can on airfares.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
