I noticed this question on another forum. Transits are included as well.

Surprisingly 27 for me....

Australia
Austria
Belgium
Cyprus
Czech Republic
Finland
France
Germany
Gibraltar
Greece
Hong Kong
Hungary
Indonesia
Italy
Malaysia
Mauritius
Netherlands
New Zealand
Poland
Singapore
Slovakia
South Africa
Switzerland
Thailand
United Kingdom
United States
Vatican

Always a tricky question due to political boundaries, name changes and other issues.

For me as best I can remember:

Australia
New Zealand
Singapore
Hong Kong
China
Macau (Notice how this could become problematic?)
Thailand
Malaysia
United States
United Kingdom
Spain
Portugal
Ireland
France
Holland
Belgium
Italy
Germany
Monaco
Switzerland
Japan
Vatican (problematic once again)

I think that's it...

Also including ships berthing at ports:

India
Japan
Bahrain
Egypt
Yemen
Greece
Italy
Austria
France
Spain
Netherlands
Germany
Vatican
Switzerland
Belgium
Denmark
Norway
United Kingdom
United States
Canada

Thats 27. I suspect the odd poster here will be in triple figures! Given there are around 200 sovereign nations, 27 just doesn't seem much. I need to get out more!

I suppose the final count depends on whether you can count countries that no longer exist (eg the former Yuogoslavia) or their current derivatives (Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia)

A much more interesting total would be countries that be very problematic to visit now that the governments have changed (eg Iran, Yemen)

51 or 52 I think

Happy wandering in my past

Texas was once its own country ... and is the only state in the USA that has the right to once again become its own country if it so chooses.

Only 17...

Äustralia
New Zealand
Singapore
Malaysia
Thailand
People's Republic of China
Republic of China
Hong Kong SAR
UK
France
Belgium
Switzerland
USA
Mexico
Japan
Germany
UAE

Australia
Singapore
Malaysia
New Caledonia (C'est La France)
Hong Kong SAR
Macau SAR
China
USA
Canada

By my reckoning HK SAR and Macau SAR are part of China and Nouvelle Caledonie is part of France

In 2008 all going well

UK
Netherlands
Germany
Austria
Slovakia
Czech Republic
Hungary
Greece
Spain

Well, looks like a nice round 50 for me (could argue about the odd one or two though):

Argentina
Australia
Austria
Belgium
Brazil
Canada
Chile
China
Cook Is
Croatia
Denmark
Egypt
Eire
Fiji
France
Germany
Gibraltar
Greece
Hong Kong
Indonesia
India
Italy
Japan
Luxembourg
Malaysia
Maldives
Mexico
Netherlands
New Caledonia
New Zealand
Pakistan
Poland
Portugal
Russia
Samoa
Saudi Arabia
Singapore
Slovenia
South Korea
Spain
Sri Lanka
Switzerland
Thailand
Tonga
Tunisia
United Kingdom
United States
United Arab Emirates
Vatican
Viet Nam

Might add a few more in the next year or two, mainly in South America and North Africa. There are quite a few places I have no intention of ever visiting, including sub-Saharan Africa (where it seems most of the countries are), so my upper limit won't be much more than 60. But at least I'll be happy with it...

Austria
Belgium
Canada
China
Cook Is
Fiji
France
Germany
Greece
Hong Kong
Indonesia
Italy
Luxembourg
Malaysia
Mexico
Netherlands
New Caledonia
New Zealand
Philippines
Portugal
Samoa
Saudi Arabia
Scotland
Singapore
Spain
Switzerland
Thailand
Tonga
United Kingdom
United States
United Arab Emirates
Vanuatu
Vatican
Wales

Although some of these are most likely linked, such as England and Scotland being the UK etc, the best part about it is that none of my travel to these parts has been for business, only holidays, so thats a bonus.

Australia (DUH!:D )
New Zealand
New Guinea
New Caledonia
Vanuatu

Canada

Hmmm only 12 (and a half!)...

Better pull my finger out!

Travel already booked for next year will add....

Thailand
Korea
Japan...

Need to get to Europe to bump up the total!!!:D

Yes, I've been to Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, not to mention the Isle Of Man, but didn't feel they were any different from the UK. I've also been to East Germany, Catalonia, etc, etc, but didn't mention them either.

But...

It looks like I did forget a few, such as Andorra, Lichtenstein, Phillipines and Vanuatu (and probably a few more).

Try telling a Scotsman that he is from the same country as an Englishman. The UK is a combination of individual countries as can be seen from the fact that they all compete individually at sporting events. but each is a country in its own right. So I seen no reason not to count them as such in a list of countries you have visited.

Ah yes, NM, but I do hold a British (EU) passport and have previously lived in the UK for over 25 years, so I have an idea of where you're coming from....

And where does that leave Jersey and Guernsey and the other Channel Islands, etc, etc?

Keep smiling...

:)
