I saw the sheet of paper the CSM had in his hand as he spoke to the people in front of me on a flight yesterday, it had something along lines of the people being important because they were friends or related to somebody else important (Australian govt person), so how is it QF know this infomation ?

I know there was a thread of CIP's, but i could not find it and not sure if it said how they came about this infomation.

Somone in QF sends through a VIP notification to the crew. It then appears as a note to crew. Without sounding arrogant, it has been done for us a couple of times and results in the CSM (or formerly pursur [spelling?]) coming and saying hello and talking small talk!

This is exactly what i saw, but what i was wondering is how do QF know in the first place to do this...

So who wants to tell QF i am important ? lets see if it works ;)

QF have to be told - usually it is the important family member or friend. It is too arrogant to ask for this for yourself! They need to pass on the flight number/sector flown and date for it to work.

Your travel agent/arranger might have the best chance of success :)

We could always arrange a special page for you next time you're in a Qantas Club and we have advance notice!

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

That might work if your TA knew the right person in QF. As always it helps to know someone in the various parts of QF (and have them at an appropriate level where they can influence an outcome] eg yield management to "release" an appropriate seat.

hmmm,. i will ask my new corp travel agent when i know them a bit better (just changed to a new company) and see what happens just for fun.

Somebody pages me in the QP and its just an excuse to get out of my seat for another HP. So we may just try that Mal.

TA's, especially those who are members of QF Platinum Club can arrange all manner of things including notifying CIP/VIP's, influencing yield mgmt to aid in waitlist clearance, have a brass band play happy birthday etc etc :D :D

FWIW I think its one thing to welcome on board status f/flyers, but I think its a bit of a toss to be given a special welcome simply because you're the PM's second cousins, aunties brother-in-law!

My understanding is that the CSM in F/J does this for all pax and also for WP's travelling in whY. It has certainly happened to me in F and J and I don't think I am more important than anyone else...

How do QF know you're important?

1. You only have one name, wear a crown, and your profile appears on Australian coins.

2. You have one name with a Roman numeral after it, wear a mitre, and kiss the ground on arrival.

3. You wear a blue bodysuit, red cape, and underwear on the outside, and fly as faster than a speeding bullet.

Of course if you're convinced you really are important you can always ask them the classic question, DYKWIA? :p

I didn't know about special notes that the staff receive informing them of status or so-called importance.

I have seen the passenger manifest on a few flights recently and your QF status, or Oneworld status, is printed next to your name. Also on one flight I noticed something like "CIP - QLD Govt travel" and no status for this person.

Yep, the manifest is usually floating around the galley during the flight pinned up, sometimes interesting to take a glance to see how many other gold/plats are on the flight with you.

I just thought it was odd about the special note being i saw rather than just a manifest comment. I guess the couple in front of me must have bene rather important.

It is , of course, not a question of how important you think you are or how important you actually are.
It is a question of how important Qantas think you are;)

I noticed the manifest on a recent trip, and as well as name and FF status, it had information about the ticket you were travelling on (in my case J points upgrade). I asked the CSM what was the point of this, and he said some staff will treat the pax on op-ups/points-ups differently to the fully paid J pax! I said I may not have paid $5k for the ticket, but I had done 20 legs with QF in the previous month, and earned the points for the upgrade & so deserved the same treatment as anyone else. He said he definately didn't condone it, but knew it went on.

He was very interested in my QF experiences, and how QF compared to other airlines for service. When I told him my saga of dissapointing QF J experiences and the Neil "raw/dry/over rated" Perry menu, he said he was surprised he hadn't been notified I would be on his flight, as this would normally be noted on the manifest as well.

I don't disagree with op-ups being targeted on the manifest, after all they may have not loaded enough J meals or similar, I have been op-uped once and warned i would have no choice in catering in J (ie whats left) or Y food.

I had CIP printed on a boarding pass once. I asked the FA about this and I was told it had to do with how much the company I was working for spends with QF..it didn't seem to make sense, but it made no difference to my flight experience anyhow.

I have had it on boarding passes before, and it made no perceptible difference to the service. As best as anyone has determined, it may make a difference in how they look after you if something goes wrong.

On a recent flight in F, I noticed the manifest as well. Only 1 person had "VIP" and he was a CEO of a major listed company. Not sure that he was treated any differently to anyone else in the cabin though.

I agree about noting op-ups for the reasons given, but not sos ure about noting upgrades. If you're in the cabin, you should be treated accordingly - whether you pay $15k for the privilege or use points upgrade from J/D, should not make a difference - practice seems to suggest that it might.
