How close is close enough for status?

I need a bit of advise from those experienced in the kindness of DJ.

I am planning to take a flight at the end of this month that will get me to 198 SC.

Given that I have at least one other flight already booked for later in the year, do you think DJ would grant me Silver with 2 SC to go at the end of the month if I asked?

QF generally only do it for renewals, not initial upgrade to the next status, although my partner was comped gold when making 690 SCs and calling up, although that was with a flight already booked for three days after the membership year rolled over.

VA seem to be a little more generous and understanding with these things

Geez, just do another short saver fare flight... I think they have done enough to make status easily obtainable for frequent flyers dont you.
