Even though I lived in NYC for 8 years I have no idea where I could stay with my family for a few nights in July. Would like something NOT in Times Square area - I like downtown best but would consider other hotels not near Times Square. There are 2 adults and 2 teenagers - does anyone have any suggestions.

Many thanks

How old are the teens ?

I stayed at the funky (and well priced) Ace Hotel, its very hipster so take note its not a standard hotel but half the price of other places.
But it not a family hotel unless your kids are late teens.

Thanks for the suggestion - it looks really cool. My kids are young teenagers so it might be a bit funky but will keep it in mind. I like the sound of the chain of hotels - they look really different.
Thanks again.

you didn't say how much you'd like to spend?

i always direct my staff to Affinia, they have a few well-placed hotels in NYC, but all are uptown or east (never been a fan of downtown myself)...maybe your young teens (especially if they're girls) would enjoy uptown more?

(uhh, actually, i can't post links... go to AFFINIA dot COM and select NYC hotels)

We did the grand Hyatt last month......hardly spent any time in the room but very good location at grand central station

Likewise at the Intercon Times Square, very well located near a subway and all the action. If yout want to duck into Hells Kitchen for a great meal then it was only a few blocks away.

Good clean rooms, modern and efficient. But you will pay a hefty price. you didnt specify your budget.

We can do funky if you got the cash baby.....................

For a good reasonably budget place try the Beacon. It's not downtown (Broadway & 75th Street) but good for families with a kitchenette in each room and a 24 hour market opposite. Plus the Beacon theatre is next door which often has top shows.
