I am wondering if someone can give advise on a hotel that is close to Heathrow airport as I will have to overnight before an 8.30 flight (international) will be arriving Aer Lingus in Heathrow late afternoon and need to be at book in desk at 5.30ish next morning .This is the small inconvenience of saving over $3000 on a J fare !! LOL! I know there is a Hotel in the airport but I can imagine it would be rather expensive ---so anything within a reasonable taxi / bus trip would be helpful! :)

What chain are you after?

I found rooms at some of the HI's around Heathrow for around 50 quid a night including brekky, and that was straight off their website.

I looked into hotels around Heathrow about a year ago and the main problem was getting to the airport. The shuttles are slow, expensive and unreliable

The Sofitel in T5 is very good and rooms very quiet. Excellent location for catching flights.
However if price is the main concern and just wanting a basic room, I'd agree with the previous poster re the nearby HI's.

I found the HI Ariel was very good for transport. Don't bother with shuttles, hoppas and the like because the hotel is in the free zone for the local buses. If coming from the Central Bus Station, you can use the 105 and get off at Harlington Corner stop E about 60m from the HI. Going back, cross the roads to bus stop J and you can get the 105 or 285 for the Central Bus Station or 423 for T5.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

What terminal are you leaving from? Could make a difference to your choice.

+1 I can recommend this for convenience. Spent 2 nights there recently (one on QF's dime....), however on one stay we did not receive the wake up call we asked for, and on both the wi-fi was less than stellar but still acceptable. Room service was good there.

It is very conveniently located with fully enclosed walkways to/from Terminal 5. However it was pricey when we paid - $300AU...but we just spent the money for the ease of getting to a 0705 BA flight to Rome.

The Hilton T5 (not actually anywhere near T5) is quite modern and nice. lovely big rooms and has an exec lounge. will have to take the shuttle bus though

I had 4 separate 1 night stays at HI London Heathrow in 2010 and was perfectly happy with the place.

As with SFSC's case, you can use 'local' commuter buses which are free. I know there are (well, there were in 2010) services at least covering T3 and T5.

If you do opt for one of the HIs (I think there are 3 near LHR?) ensure you end up at the one you booked.. I saw a couple of people trying to check in at the HI I was staying at, turned out their booking was at one of the others.

Happy to give a bit more detail if you want/need it.
