Hong Kong Non interline fransfer

Hi All,
Coming home from China in a fortnight. Dragon air from Xiamen to HKG and then VA to Syd 3 hour stop all up. I know that the two airlines don't interline so does this mean I have to go through imigration to baggage area to collect bags and then out to main desk to re-chck in? Its not a huge issue as I have an APEC card but just not sure how it will work.
