Any HK experts out there can you please advise.

We land in HK at 10pm. Should we get one of the late night ferries to Macau that night or would it be better to stay in HK until the next day? I don't think the airport ferry service will be operating at 10pm.

If we should stay in HK can you suggest where to stay that is close to Sheung Wan? We don't want to pay $600+ for the Four Seasons. Up to about 400 AUD is ok.

Yep, the HKIA / Macau ferry does stop at 22.00 hrs, even if you travel light, customs and the walk will hold you up further.
Can recomend Novotel Hong Kong Central on the Island, you should get a good room for HKD1050 to 1250 depending on your arrival dates, catch the A/Port express to Hong Kong Stn, and utilise the free shuttle bus to the Hotel.
Taxi fare from Hotel to Shun Tak Centre (the ferry terminal) about HKD25, or take the MTR to Sheung Wan Stn, which is under the ferry terminal.

Cheers Dee

Thanks. Any view on the relative merits of taking the late night ferry from Sheung Wah as opposed to staying the night in Hong Kong?

There is the Turbojet 24 hour service from Sheung Wah to Macau. CotaiJet also has a service from Sheung Wah until 1am.

If you are staying at the Venetian (or nearby), then I'd probably suggest the CotaiJet over the TurboJet.

I haven't caught the ferry that late, but the things I'd be thinking about:

- The view between Hong Kong and Macau isn't particularly interesting, so you aren't missing out on anything.
- Taxis should be available that late (but are likely to be scarce at the terminals), although most of the shuttle buses to casinos etc, are likely to be finished.
- Immigration at Macau can be a mad-house (particularly at the Macau Ferry Terminal, not so much the Taipa Ferry Terminal where the CotaiJet arrives).
- Journey time is about an hour, so all up you won't be in your hotel until about 1am I'd expect.
