Hi All,

I'm looking to spend a week in Hong Kong sometime before September. I haven't been there before and would appreciate any suggestions regarding suitable accommodation (not too fussed by location or room rate).

Cheers,

Langham Place in Mongkok is great hotel handy to markets and sits above train station which is perfect when in Hong Kong

I've stayed at the Intercontinental and the Mandarin Oriental. Both a nice properties but tend to be fairly expensive. One is on the Mainland and the other is on the Island. Both have pros and cons.

You haven't really mentioned much in terms of what criteria your looking for so it's quite hard for me to recommend a hotel for you. Further, this question is asked fairly regularly on these forums so searching could yield some ideas for you.

If you're here strictly for pleasure and for the first time I'd suggest staying on Hong Kong island in either Causeway Bay or Central - the standard of hotels is pretty good so it really comes down to your priorities in terms of facilities.

Try the harbor grand in a club room its great value. It's on the island side with an MTR station around the corner. 5 star without the cost of a chain brand 5 star.

We have stayed at the Nathan Hotel Cnr Nathan Rd and Saigon St Yau Ma Tei which is right next to Mongkok and a 10 minute walk form the middle of Kowloon. It is 5 min from the Night Markets and 10 minutes from the ladies market in Mongkok and all the PC and electrical markets. Four star and big modern rooms with kingsize beds flat screen 47 inch TVs and free WiFi. Includes breakfast. The hotel had a massive refurb in 2010 so still nice and new. It is a great walk each morning heading towards the harbour but if you want to be in a rush, grab the MTR which stops about 200 metres away. Starbucks on the corner and lots of really nice cheap eateries. We like it as it is just that little bit quieter than Tsim Tsa Chui but close enough to all the action and fancy shopping. Stay on the island if you want to get away from any nightlife. If you want some more info, DM me. Lot of chinese business stay there so it is a pretty quiet place during the day and very little noise at night.

The Mira in Kowloon. Stayed there last week and was blown away at how good it is, and reasonable price (2400 HKD with breakfast). To be honest, it was amazing.

Oh and in response to bat21, i also stayed at the Nathan for one night recently. Good hotel if your budget is limited, but i would look elsewhere if you have money to burn.

When I went to HKG with the family we stayed at the disney Land hotel for a few nights while we went to Disney land.

We then stayed at the Harbor Plaza Metropolis which was a 1 bedroom suite and kitchen.

I stayed at the Eaton Hotel a few weeks ago and it was ok as well.

Recently stayed at Hyatt Regency TST and had a great time. Directly above TST station, so quick to get you into and out of Central, and connected to most of TST by the pedestrian subway. Above the K11 Mall for access to essentials, and despite being right next to it, you can complete avoid Nathan Road if that's not your sort of thing. Rates are typical Hyatt, but pretty decent for what you get.

+1
Excellent hotel and fault-less service.
Monkok is the most populas place on earth and langham allows you to dip a toe into this but then escape into a sanctuary when required.
Markets. Electronics. Attached to a mall. On top of the MTR. At a price better than most of the TST hotels.

Sounds like your travelling solo. If not and a family is involved see what is available at the Salisbury YMCA, super location in Kowloon, hard beds though. Very good rates considering it is across the road from the Peninsula.

Stayed previously at the IC Grand Stanford. Nice but each day starts with a bus ride to the Ferry terminal or MTR station and ends with a taxi ride (PITA vs the accessability of the YMCA).

Do yourself a favour & stay at the Four Seasons....IMO, the best pool, restaurants, location, service, harbour view (from the Is) & rooms in HGK. Make sure you get exec club access - food & drink offer is amazing as is the outdoor balcony for drinks with a view.

Thanks for all the replies so far (feel free to keep them coming).

It will be a bit of 'me time', although hopefully an old friend/best mate will join me. :D

The family won't be making this trip :)

Another vote for the Langham Place in Mongkok. And if finances permit take a Club room and enjoy the free afternoon tea (classic High Tea) and pre dinner alcohol and nibbles. One night veuve was on tap. Great location with fantastic gym. I've stayed there 3 times.

On the Langham Place, Look for the book nights get a 3rd free deals. Very regular.
Many hotels are doing this, can you can get cheap club room (on average over 3 night) than 3 nights in a Std room. Stops them discounting the club room price on the booking sites.

I think I did drink my body weight in french champagne during one stay in a club room (over a few nights mind you...). Great club lounge.

We've stayed at Langham Place and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Very Mongkok but also very different inside.
One minor downside is that the shuttle buses from the MTR don't drop there so you catch a cab from Kowloon.

I'm with amaroo, for all the reasons given. The Four Seasons rocks. Stay there just to swim in the horizon pool overlooking the harbour. Some very fine "me time" to be had there.

+1 Four Seasons. One of the best hotels I've ever stayed in (but was on company tab)...

For cheap and cheerful - I've stayed at the Island Pacific just past Sheung Wan. But prob more inconvenient unless you really want to be on the Island...
