Hi all,
This is mostly hypothetical, but hopefully some of you would like a challenge ;)
What is the cheapest ticket that could be bought so that a WP could gain access to VA or Singapore (or any other partner) lounge in Hong Kong airport? Working on the assumption that a valid boarding pass + VA WP card must be shown.

I know there are other pay lounges, but they're not as good...

There's a SilverKris (business) lounge in Hong Kong by the looks of it.
If so, you just need an eligible boarding pass (any class including discount Y) + your VA WP card and you'll get access.

Mind you you will not earn any status credits (or points perhaps?) unless you're flying the right class, check your fare booking class against VA's table here: Status Earn Fare Class| Velocity Frequent Flyer

The cheapest will depend on when your flying?

I wouldn't bother. . The sq lounge is rubbish at hkg, not worth the hassle or expense

As I understand it the only three lounges you could possibly access are the VS lounge if flying VS to LHR, the EY lounge if flying to AUH, or the SQ lounge if flying to SIN or SFO.

Presumably, the cheapest of these 4 flights would be SQ HKG-SIN as its by far the shortest.

Hi all and thanks for the replies. I was wondering if during a non-Virgin partner airline layover for 5 hours it made any sense to buy (and not board) a Virgin partner flight ex-Singapore that would give me access to one of the lounges - and by extension due to WP status the wife and 2 kids.
e.g.
pay lounges (generally poor quality) = $155 for 4 pax. x 4 hrs
SQ or VA lounge (better?) = price of 1 x shortest route/cheapest ticket ex-SIN on appropriate airline .

but it looks like from smit0847's post there won't be anything for less than several hundred dollars.

Was a nice academic exercise anyway :)

I second that, I took my kids to the silver kris lounge and they got bored really quickly, not even toilets or showers inside. Not really any other options in HK as a VA plat... I don't know what the pay lounges are like if they might be better or more exciting?

I've only ever used the landside pay-in lounge at HKG underneath the Airport Express station, but I think it's not that bad - not as bad as the SilverKris lounge.

I agree with the others - the current SilverKris lounge at HKG is fairly pointless... you get a basic buffet, seats you don't have to fight over and WiFi. Not much else. As has been mentioned it doesn't even have toilets. It'll be closed from end-May to mid-Sep for renovations.
