Anyone else had this problem, trying to book a car in Corsica. when I'm not signed in I can see availability but if I sign in get told nothing available (both when I try to use discount codes and not).

Have also tried signing onto other country sites (UK/France and US), occasionally I can get availability to show but at a much greater price.

Can I add my Hertz card details to booking after making the reservation?

Yes. But odd none the less. There’s a similar thread but Avis Preferred but just being more expensive.

Just a thought, but it’s possibly your default discount codes in your profile that are causing issues?

Yeah, I’ll play around with it and see if changing default helps.

That was totally the problem, had Amex Platinum card as my default and this may be an old CDP. Incidentally in searching for a replacement found on the UK site a 15% off CDP for Mastercard, apparently from the T&Cs any Mastercard works. There is also one there for Amex but only 10% off but it is for any Amex.

Just curious; where do I find my latest Amex Platinum CDP number for Hertz and Avis. Can find it in my account settings.

You need to enrol in Hertz Gold plus first through the Amex portal.

It is worth comparing CDP discounts with a non CDP booking. Many times Ive discovered that a non CDP booking puts me in a better position.

It’s a pity the website/app isn‘t smart enough to work out which CDP is best when making a booking. I have several in the system. Occasionally one is better than what I get through AVIS.

It‘s a worry if “non CDP” is better! Perhaps you have a default lurking in the system that’s working better than specific CDP? Or the CDPs are only valid in certain regions or vehicle types, durations, weekends, non-weekends etc etc… ?

Ive had two windows opened for the times ive used Hertz/Avis - one with a CDP and one without. I can often see a difference in favour of non CDP. Not always.
The mantra to shop around applies here too - even within a booking portal.

Yes, I understand and totally agree to check/benchmark either with another provider or with no or different codes.

It‘s still weird (and I’ve seen it myself but can’t explain) why a CDP or equivalent works out more expensive. I can only speculate that they’re matched to some other criteria and if there’s a disconnect they default to some ugly rack rate?

rack rate
Yes
Im thinking the CDP discounts or improves on a "rack rate" but that is also different to the "on the day" rate for the requested booking.

So sometimes the CDP improvement which is a contractual agreement based off a "rack rate", is not as good as the "on the day" rate especially if the "on the day" rate may be a discount or improvement off the rack rate itself

I had to read that three times 😁 but yes, I get what you mean. Probably especially relevant if trying to book closer to the actual rental date. If booking weeks or months out (as I try to do), hopefully less of an issue.
