Next January I am planning two nights in KL and am looking to stay at the Hitlon, Doubletree or both.

I have seen some recent post on these.

Do any have recommendations and thoughts on these properties?

My main considerations are:

Access to/from KUL airport
Access to/from Kuala Lumpur itself,
Quality of Executive Lounge offering.

Information on any other considerations are welcome.

I loved the Hilton KL, especially the Terrace Suite I had (huge balcony, jacuzzi, table and chairs) and terrific rate. Executive Lounge was big with very helpful attendants. It was directly across from the train station so good location wise and plenty of taxis also. Facilities in the hotel excellent and a real "buzz" to it. Management friendly and quality of food good. Executive lounge computers were very old, but the staff there cannot do enough to help you. I only had afternoon tea there once but it was good and plenty of variety.
I used a taxi there from the airport one time and the Hilton driver a couple of others. Prompt, but quite a long trip especially if there's traffic.

Hilton KL if you ask me....will d/w you tonite over dinner in the F lounge

Access to/from KUL airport
KL Hilton at Sentral is the winner here. Hilton is right at Sentral where the Airport Ekspress train stops. Hilton will arrange a shuttle bus is you want, or you can walk it with wheeled bags very quickly.
Access to/from Kuala Lumpur itself,
Depends on where you want to be and what you want to do. Very little in walking distance of Hilton at Sentral, but its very well connected by public transport to almost anywhere (Mono Rail is maybe 500m walk, light rail is about 150m walk from hotel).

But Doubletree is walking distance to lots of things like restaurant, KLCC etc, and easy access to light rail options to go to places like China Town markets etc.
Quality of Executive Lounge offering.
Have not tried Doubletree, but Hilton is excellent lounge with good food and beverage options.

So the downside for Hilton is that you need to take public transport to get to anything other than the Hilton. But that is easy and cheap in KL. Otherwise its a great hotel.

Having stayed at both (and the brand new aloft in the last week).

Hilton.

Right above Sentral so easy access coming from the airport.
Bit of a pain to get to reception with access via slow carpark lifts.
Reception presently undergoing renovation (new layer of marble floor, temporary desks so presently a shambles)
Good Exec lounge, moderate canape selection, had a quartet playing during drinks
Great shared pool with Le Meridien.
About 500m from monorail which provides access into Bukit Bintang, other central areas
Only got upgraded to a deluxe room on single stay as diamond.

Doubletree
Across covered walkway from Ampang Park station (one stop to KLCC/Petronas Towers (or walkable), about five stops from Sentral.
Lots of external restaurant options in the Intermark building that the hotel sits above
Had suites in three stays as a diamond.
I prefer the size and food selection in the lounge.

So on your three specifics.
KUL Airport - Hilton via Ekspres Train is quickest, but Doubletree only 10min more via train/taxi
KL itself - Doubletree is closer to KLCC area, but Hilton closer to the monorail that runs through the centre
Exec Lounge - Both good, for me Doubletree better

how about room quality and cleaniness between KL Hilton and Doubletree?

Have stayed at the KL Hilton twice (1 week apart, book ending a trip to Thailand) found it very convenient for the train to KL airport, though as moa99 states, getting from the station to reception is a bit of a chore, though not far. Gold Status, got upgraded to EL on first visit, then got a suite on second visit. Thought the lounge was pretty good, nice breakfast spread in the morning, and food, drinks at night.. Staff at reception were very helpful, in the Lounge service was a bit inconsistent. Ms dcff1961 liked the pool...

Both pretty high on room quality and cleanliness.

Hilton probably more classic hotel room feel, whereas the Doubletree uses light brown wood/laminate throughout.

Should also note that the Doubletree is normally cheaper as well.
Don't think you can go wrong with either.

Thanks moa999. I was even thinking of just staying at the westin in bukit bintang. I am HH Gold and SPG Gold. But HH Gold I get better recognition. SPG Gold at westin I probably won't get much...But believe westin is in a better location for a tourist maybe.... Actually which one is more kid friendly?

I would say the doubletree is better simply because the rooms are bigger, the lounge also has a very good offering re canapés. Location wise it does depend on what you plan to do, while the Hilton is essentially next door to the KLIA express, the DT is only a short train ride away. If you are there during a business day the DT has a very good kopitiam style food court offering great food at local prices while being very clean on the lower floor.

I have stayed twice at the Hilton in KL, enjoyed both stays but they were only during the week and I was working so not really going out other then to the office. Yes it is convient to the KL Central for the airport express, the lounge is good, but access to anything is by train or taxi.

Next week I am back there for two weeks and from advise here I decided to try the DoubleTree, as I will spend some time looking around at the weekend, so it is more central to things, from what I can see. The rooms look good and reports are good, also there is now Wi-Fi in all of the hotel, based on replies to my emails querying it with them.

I also went with the DoubleTree as the Hilton in Feb was doing renovations and I believe they are still going on, while they didn't really impact me the main restaurant areas were closed and a few of the lifts, so waiting longer for lifts was annoying.

So I can post back mid next week when I have stayed in both and give you an opinion on them then.

Well as I am currently in the Double Tree and have previously stayed at the Hilton, I would say the Hilton is better for acces to KUL Airport as it is right by KL Central and the KL express.

A regards he Executiove lounge they are both pretty similiar in offereings can't really say which is better but the view from the DT is better with a good view of the Pretonis Towers.

Access to KL shopping is better from the DT as it is more central, not far from KLCC and other shopping areas, also a lot more options to eat near by, if you want to go outside the hotel compared to the Hilton.

Comparing the rooms I would say they are of a very similiar standard, but prefer some of the DT features, mainly they have more universal sockets so no need for adapters which is handy.

Will stay here again the next time I am back here.

No thread hijack here. The title was deliberately general and that's the very type of useful question/info that's appropriate.

Very useful...caught the train yesterday at about 0640 after checking in and picking up BP at the MH counter and for 35MYR and 28 minutes later....off the train and head straight for the Satellite Lounge.
A fantastic system when staying at the KL Hilton.

Thanks Guys :)

Just arrived at the KL Double Tree Hilton. About RMB55 from the airport by taxi. This hotel is top notch so far! and the welcome cookie is a real treat :)

Checkout the food court on the lower basement levels during the weekdays, it has great cheap options for lunch. There is also an ATM and money changer on the first basement level, use the escalators near Dome.

Is the food court of western selections or local Malaysian/chinese?
