I was just on the phone to make a booking and was told that the 31st March 2011 is the last day that the Hilton Melbourne Airport will be trading as a Hilton. :(

From the 1st April 2011 the hotel will trade as The Park Royal Melbourne Airport. All existing bookings will be honoured at the rate booked but there will be no HHonors points awarded and no Hilton redemptions available.

I'm not sure how it will affect overall but I'll have to have a rethink of a few bookings.

As I posted back on October 15...

The Melbourne Airport Hilton is currently up for sale by the owners Mulpha Australia. Expressions of interest close October 25th. Price is believed to be around $120m.
I wonder if Pan Pacific bought the property or if they are operating it for someone else.

Richard.

Knowing TPR they aren't going to do a lot on the renovation side of things except hopefully fix some of the scuffs on the fittings.

Ah well, back to a two-Hilton MEL. I guess my choice of accommodation at the airport if I want to earn anything to my useful statuses will be the Holiday Inn. At least it is a refurbished one.

Only have a booking there in April so no HHonors anymore :(

Gee Bill ... that's a real bummer ... it was such a convenient Hilton for points!

Well there goes my chance of reaching Hilton Diamond for another year - Hilton Melbourne AP accounts for about 33% of my 28 stays. :(

I'm kind of happy about this. Their service has been so bad of late, but I keep going back as it is still nicer (the hotel itself) than the HI. Now I have no excuse not to stay at the HI.

HI for me too, unfortunately. I thought I had the HHonours thing under control, but this will change now.

Ah well, at least there's Steve Sickel :)

Really? It needs to be gutted that place. Filthy, small and worn out.

Wouldn't let my dog stay there!

Really hoping they fix it up.

Take it easy. Within Australian standards it's alright, although not worth $260 for a standard room per night for sure (I'd reel a bit paying even $200). I'd hate to think what you'd comment on a few HIs around Australia, or some Constellation Group properties.

I've stayed at a TPR before and I can tell you that even if they clean up this Hilton but make it the same as the property I stayed at, it'll be pretty lame and still (if not more, because less "benefits" to be given) not worth $200 let alone $260 for a standard room per night.

Disappointing (purely from an HHonors earning points of view as I have never stayed there).

Interesting, though, the Hilton website still allows bookings all through 2011.

Don't need to take it easy thanks, as I've not once but twice had a FULL refund from that place after staying there... I actually can't say why for the second time (legal reasons) but the first involved finding various foreign matter in the room and bathroom.

I don't blow up, ever really as a rule but that Hilton certainly and deservedly copped some heat :)

Why would you go back a second time if you had such a bad experience that required a full refund? Its not like its the only hotel for miles with the HI and the Mantra close by.

I must have stayed at a different AP Hilton  Admittedly, only 3 stays but each one was most pleasant - polite and helpful staff, clean rooms/bathrooms, upgrade to suite after the first stay ... and am staggered to read of others experiences!

Try working in an inflexible multinational company markis10 ;)

Obviously I wouldn't spend my own coin there.

Ahh, it was the companies money, different thing :p, and I have worked for such a company, but we usually had at least two options in each town.

Well, I'm looking to arrive in MEL Sunday 16th, so will be interesting to see if I decide to stay there or the HI, depending on pricing. 4x points is appealing

Yes so do we but only one at the airport.... Now I don't care about how early/late I have to get up I'll stay in one of the city approved hotels :)

Sorted!
