Construction has resumed at the $700 million Hilton Hotel development site at Surfers Paradise after Brookfield Multiplex stepped in to save the project.

There are contradictionary terms in the article. I did see the site when I was at Surfers Paradise a couple of weeks ago and to be honest 2011 in the grand scheme of things is not that far away.

Is it a hotel or apartment building? I know you can have a mixture but my understanding is that it will be something similar to Hilton Residences in some countries where it is very difficult to get rooms or even award bookings most nights of the year....

The website talks mostly about the residential aspect (Hilton Surfers Paradise Hotel and Residences, Gold Coast Investment Property, Buy Off The Plan, Raptis Group), but given its name (The Hilton Surfers Paradise Hotel and Residences), it seems reasonable to expect some hotel component.

The hotel part seems to be in phase 2, so it will be just residential to begin with.

As far as i'm aware, there will be 2 towers, one consisting of residential apartments and the second being the hotel itself.

I do laugh that the developers (MetaCap developments) list on their web page for the project that "project sold" rather than "project abandoned". Wonder why that is
