Canberra desperately needs to improve the quality of its hotels so this would be welcome.

I live in Canberra and I am super keen for this. It is much needed. When looking for an apartment here a few years ago, I had a last-minute stay at a motel in Queanbeyan for $250/night as parliament was sitting. Canberra/ACT was sold out.

Their name isn't Geocon, so you are probably right!

(Geocon are building shoddy apartment buildings all over Canberra).

As much as I would have liked this to be true, look at their track record in Melbourne (Hilton's, not GeoCon's )

I really like the Hyatt, but lacks food an drink options within close walking distance.

We enjoyed the Hyatt and they gave us a nice room. But as I lack top-tier status, we had to upgrade the room to get lounge access. At Hiltons I get lounge and restaurant breakfast as a Diamond.
