Can anyone advise on the rules for booking a hotel room in your name but using it for family members & friends? For example, me booking a room in my name on my credit card (Diamond booking) and letting my son & friend use the room. Providing i name him as a guest. Would this be a breach of any rules? Especially if offered free breakfast? It kind of seems wrong but not sure if they care.

I cannot advise you of the legalities of such but I have done so in the past. Having said that I have almost always had a parallel booking which legalises it somewhat.

If in doubt try ringing the specific hotel and having a talk with them.

I can't comment on the official stance, but unofficially I have done this with HSW, DT-MEL, HSP and H-TOK without an issue and without me having a parallel booking. I list the family member as a guest on the booking but admittedly, I haven't told them I won't be staying. All benefits hAve been given as expected.

I have tried to find rules / Terms & Conditions etc but can't seem to find anywhere where they really define what is acceptable. I'm sure to them a booking is a booking and therefore revenue. Not sure they'd make too much of a fuss about it. But was trying to avoid any issues that may arise.

HAve a read of the new family pooling scheme. That may provide a bit of an idea of their thought process.

I don't think there's much issue booking the room more diamond benefits being given to someone who is not a diamond. I would be careful and possibly do a google search for more information.

If I book 2 rooms in my name and include a friend, I stay in one and a friend stays in the other, will I get the points and nights for both rooms?

Yes, but it's advisable to merge the folios. Simple enough (just ask at reception).

Sorry, I'm have to clarify. You.'ll get the points for both, but night and stay credits for just one. Their logic is that you, as the status member, can only logically stay in one room. Having said that, perhaps you may be lucky, but I haven't heard of it.

I'll PM my dates and destinations in Europe, Asia and the US on my OW Award if you wouldn't mind taking care of my rooms too mate. Very happy for you to keep the points ;)

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Well i think i will call the hotel in advance and advise them that i won't be staying and let them decide on the outcome. Not trying to get anything out of them other than a decent fair price for my loyalty. Not like i would allow them to use the exec lounge.

Funny you say that, as I was going to caution on the first post, to be careful as to who you nominate as a "guest", keeping in mind that the person on the booking is responsible for charges and damages. I've thought closely about the ones I've done for the kids as their mates are not my mates and how do I know what they m at do.eat or drink! The ones I've done for my +1, I pray for damage as she'd be indebted to me for life!

The Diamond member is supposed to be staying in-house

For earning points:

To earn Hilton Honors Points for hotel stays, a Member must be a registered, paying and staying guest at a participating hotel

For Diamond Benefits:

Diamond Elite Members will receive the following during stays as a registered Diamond Elite Member:

The Diamond member is supposed to be staying in-house

Thanks oz_mark. That's pretty clear.

I can also say though, Hilton has disregarded another condition there with me as well ... this one "a Member must be a registered, paying and staying guest" ... if I can con +1 into paying, I do so and collect the points!

Yes, i have had this confirmed via Hilton Chat that you must be a staying guest. So that's fine i actually rang reservations and booked under my childs name and paid via my account. Reservation came through as her booking. Not sure where any points go so may have her join HH and get them herself.

Thanks for all the answers.

Would be interesting to know the consequences of not complying though.....
