Just got the following from Qantas. I will be taking advantage of it, but even then, I will be over 350 points from retaining Platinum. :(

We appreciate your ongoing support of Qantas and would like to give you some extra help towards re-qualifying for Platinum Frequent Flyer privileges at the end of your current membership year.

As at 3 Nov 2009, you have 775 Status credits, so you'll need 425 more by the end of February 2010 to retain your Platinum membership. You can earn Status credits when you fly on eligible Qantas, oneworld™ alliance airlines, Air Pacific, Jetstar or QantasLink services*.

50 extra Status credits on your next eligible flight

To help you re-qualify for Platinum, you'll receive 50 extra Status credits on your next Qantas, QantasLink or codeshare flight with a QF flight number. Valid for new bookings made and travel taken before 4 Feb 2010^.

We'll automatically award the bonus Status credits to your account after you fly.

I got it too.

Surprisingly our situation is very similar (based on what is in your email).

... now pondering when I will next be on Qantas. Nothing is planned before Feb 4th, and a "quick trip" to Singapore/Hong Kong/Bangkok isn't as easy as flying BNE-SYD-BNE for a day!

What they need to do is provide 50 extra SC per eligible flight. :)

Tell me about it! I'd definitely requalify then!

I didn't get the e-mail, though I'm significantly further away from re-qualification. Will be closer after December though - interesting to see if I get the e-mail then.

Cheers,
- Febs.

Interesting that this email comes 4 months out
and then QF still seem to be comping people 2 months out.

For those who have got the 50 SC bonus
- are you in the zone to be comped - ie averaged above 1200 SCs for last 2/3 years?

I was comped last year, but earnt Plat anyways. I average > 1200 sc's /year over the last 3, but it's not by much.

This is my first year as Platinum. I made it to Platinum by getting to 1400 on 27th Feb last year, just 1 day before my anniversary date.

This year, no chance of keeping Platinum as my next flight is on 25th Dec, which will leave me with 355 points to do in two months with no other trips planned. Will have to see if I get comped instead.

There aren't any codeshare's between European cities on BA, IB or MA then?

Plenty. Whether I can book them is another matter - ie, would Qantas let me tack one onto my ex-HKG ticket that I'm currently on.

You could try one of the codeshare trains in germany ...

Expect a communication from QFF in the first weeks of December - it will have either

news or

news ...

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

My Plat status was due 31st Aug 2009 and I was 300 short when in either June or July I got an email from QF advising they had automatically renewed my Plat status.

I ended up making a trip last August which earnt more than enough SC to requalify.

As Serfty said, expect to receive an email in due course from QF, which IMO, will be good news.

Given that they have already given him an assistance towards maintaining status , I wouldn't be assuming that they will be sending an auto-renewal message

Train services earn no points or status credits, so that's not really a viable option there!
So they say - but .....;)

edit: but it would be an experiment so risky if you really need the SCs

I read a thread a while ago about this and someone mentioned it had *not* posted but had come up as an entry in their FF activity statement with 0 in all fields (much like a redemption flight or non earning JQ flight)

And similar entries don't tick over the "Qantas flights" counter for retention of status, nor do they actually contribute much except for retaining a history of when you flew (or trained!) a sector.

I'm sure I can work out a way to get my well-earned 50sc bonus benefit. Heck, I could even be flying BNE-SYD tomorrow - even though I'm > 24 hours flying away!
