Hi guys,
Planning to go to Europe later this year, thinking of going this help, hope to get your opinion
SYD--LAX stop over few days
LAX- JFK

CDG--FRA stop over few days
FRA--SYD

Just wondering is it a valid route? how much points do I need
If it's not workable, I'd probably give up USA
Thanks in advance

Welcome to the forum

How many US miles do you have? Have you tried the US Airways web site?
With US Airways leaving Star Alliance on 30 March and joining OneWorld Alliance on 31 March you have different options (partners). Will depend on the date you make the award

As Mwenenzi said above, US will be joining OW at the end of March so the redemption rules may change then. But as far as the current procedures on star alliance are concerned, your route is definitely a valid route - the real question is how much miles it is going to cost.

The award bookings at USDM are all done manually by the agent you speak to on the phone, including validating the routing. If the agent you speak to confirms that the routing is valid and it is going to cost you X miles, then that is the price.

Technically speaking, your trip should be considered as an 'round the world' trip, which should cost 200k in economy, 300k in business and 400k in first. But chances are, it is more likely that the pricing will be based on what the agent considers as your final destination. This can be either USA for 140k in business or Europe for 150k in business, with 150k being a more realistic price.

If you are interested in booking for star alliance flights, you will need to get the tickets confirmed before they leave the alliance, otherwise you'll have to look at oneworld flights.

if your itinerary is just one stopover (LAX) and one destination (FRA) then it is not valid.

travel from Australia to Europe is not permitted via the usa.

you should have a quick read of the US AIRWAYS MEMBERSHIP GUIDE to give you an idea of routing restrictions.

Make FRA your stopover (go there first) and then LAX your destination then return home.

You have 19 days to book this before US leave *A. I would not expect to be able to book OW flights using USDM in the near future.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

thanks guys
Also anyone got empty us account with 100% bonus that I can borrow? my 4 accounts are all 50%

From what I hear, it seems like we will be able to book on OW flights using USDM pretty much as soon as they join OW. For the meantime, it appears that the system will be kept separately to AA and best of all, the current USDM redemption rates will remain atleast in the short term.

But!

I've only seen this online and not directly from US Airways so take this information with a grain of salt.
