I've seen a few threads on coughet, but I still cannot make up my mind about where to stay.

Ms Chooms and I have decided to take advantage of the Qantas sale and grab a couple of PE seats to SIN, where we are looking to travel across to coughet for a decent 12 or so days away (PE SYD-SIN-SYD on QF then Y SIN-HKT-SIN on 3K is costing only $150 more than the direct on JQ ... also taking advantage of the cheaper rate to upgrade PE > J ).

Date range is from 5 APR.

We would do 1 night in SIN before heading to HKT, then come back for 2 nights in SIN on the way back to Australia.

Now, as much as I would love to spend 7 nights at the Six Senses Yao Noi, unfortunately the budget does not extend that far.

If I could find a great deal for a similar resort on a great beach or great views that wouldn't charge more than say $2k for 5 nights, I would take it. A villa would be nice, but I suppose it isn't essential.

I have Accor Plat and happy to stay a couple of nights at the MGallery B-Long Tay or the Pullman either side of a decent luxury resort stay for say 3 nights.

Anyone have any thoughts?

The ones I have been looking at include:

Pullman coughet Arcadia, Naithon Beach
Six Senses Yao Noi
Santhiya Koh Yao Yai
Glow Elixir Koh Yao Yai
The Shore at Katathani
Trisara coughet
Anantara coughet Villas

Also, any recommendations on day trips island hopping or spending the day at a remote beach? This would be a private trip and not as part of a group.

Any help would be great!

Question has to be asked is what are you looking for in a hotel, is it a place just to sleep, or are you looking for more a resort where the facilities and optional activities are more of interest? Are you the sort of traveller that loves to eat at hotels or are you more the local experience style of traveller preferring to do as the locals do? DO you like quiet and solitude or crowds/markets?

Maybe a good mix of both... a few days lazing at a stunning beach or pool, maybe some shopping and probably would prefer eating outside the hotel for a bit of variety and get the local flavour.

Getting a bit older, so the nightlife aspect isn't a priority. We do enjoy a drink and socialising but happy to do that around a nice beach bar/pool bar.

Not a huge fan of crowds or the touts for that matter. A good example: Bali was great for us as we stayed at the W in Seminyak and only went in to Kuta for one day.

use www.booking.com and filter your results - you can filter by stars, prices, amenities, hotel chains, customer ratings etc...a few clicks of the mouse and you're ideal hotel is on the screen. And it's not an advertisment, I just like the engine for its filter capabilities

Oooooh... I have just found a nice price match for The Naka Island (Starwood).

Anyone been there? Looking at $2,500AUD for 4 nights in a Sea view pool villa.

Stay at Torcello Villas if you have the money. A mate of mind had his wedding there last month and the villas are very decadent. I don't know the actual cost though but it would be very price-y!

Novotel Kamala Beach sits on its own beach, nice water, much more tranquil than say Patong Beach. Rates are pretty good value as well. If that is a bit far, then Novotel coughet which sits on top of the hill but a stone's throw away from Patong, has nice resort pool with picturesque views.

If staying at Patong Beach, then La Flora Patong, a SLH, is the recommended hotel to stay at.

Thats popped a bit on Starwoods escape deals that show every Wednesday, usually 50-70% off.

Le Meridien Khao Lak gets my vote. It's more isolated but we hated Paton/Karon beaches etc. the Le meridian in Khao Lak is quiet and nice and you can ride to nearby waterfalls or do free morning yoga on the beach.

Yeah the Le Meridian looks nice, but it does seem to be a very large resort. What are the rooms like? Are there villas or just hotel rooms?

Have stayed at Sri Panwa.....

Kata Beach is a gorgeous and reasonably quiet spot, yet only a short trip to Patong. We stayed at Sawasdee Village a few years ago - although back from the beach a little (6-7 mins walk) and with a very innocuous street profile it is a beautiful oasis once inside: Sawasdee Village (coughet/Kata Beach): See 869 Resort Reviews and 679 Photos - TripAdvisor

The Baray Villas were only just opened when we stayed a looked absolutely spectacular: coughet Resort, Sawasdee Village and The Baray Villa, Luxury Resort & Spa, Kata Beach coughet, Thailand

The Le Meridien in coughet or Khao Lak?
The Khao Lak one is nice, rooms, suites and villas. I had a pool villa with private plunge pool. Villas get a buffet ala carte breakfast option not available to regular rooms.

Large doesn't equal crowded either, it's all down to layout. I found that the adults only pool area was frequently empty.

I was looking at the coughet one. The Khao Lak one looks great. Just out of interest, how did you get from HKT or Patong to Khao Lak?

From HKT direct. I wouldn't spend more time than absolutely necessary in Patong etc.

I used a hotel transfer, think they start at about $30 or so, but the flyertalk thread has a few car companies you can use.

If you have any questions about the LM Khao Lak, I was there Nov-dec 2013 so I have quite an up-to-date experience.
PM me or post here.

Thanks for the offer. We have decided to hold off and think about the accom options for the moment. Too many to choose from! Seriously considering Sri Panwa though (even with the price tag ).

Just for info, these are the flights we got:

BNE-SYD (QF Y)
SYD-SIN (QF PE with a request for upgrade to J)
SIN-HKT (3K Y)
HKT-SIN (3K Y)
SIN-BNE (QF PE with a request for upgrade to J)

All this for $1560pp (+100k FFPs if upgrades are successful).

Not bad given the most direct route on JQ (BNE-MEL-HKT-MEL-BNE) is $1,242pp for Y without meals, baggage and FFPs/SCs and $2,758.88pp in J for the same days .

I stayed in Sri Panwa two years ago. It's expensive but i do highly recommend it if within your budget.
