I have heard Qatar are very strict with 7kg, 1 piece of hand carry

My issue is that with a connecting flight to Lufthansa in Madrid from Singapore I do not have time to check-in luggage and wait for bag at the other end

I would therefore have 7-8kg plus laptop to carry on board

How strict are they currently?
As Q Platinum with related Oneworld status, would there be any leeway as a result?

interesting - no mention on their website allowing a handbag or under seat bag like most airlines. How do ladies get on with the 7kg luggage plus normal handbag.

They do mention it?

In addition to your hand baggage allowance, you can also carry personal items such as one lady’s handbag or one small briefcase; one coat, cape or blanket; one umbrella; one pair of crutches or a walking stick; one small camera or binoculars; limited reading material; an infant’s carrying basket; duty-free items purchased on the day of your flight.

I recently flew J not Y, and didn't see anybody checking luggage at the gate in BNE, DOH or ATH, at least in the priority boarding group -- which I imagine you'd be in with status.

Agents at check-in in ATH did weigh our carry-ons and then tag them, but only cared about the hard-cased luggage. Made it clear they didn't want to weigh our Country Road bags or personal items (allowance is 2 pieces + personal item flying J).
