Hello to all.

5 weeks until our first QF flight, & my first visit to Australia, so most certainly time to make a brief introduction.

Regretably we are only leisure travellers, without the time or the budget to get us status with any airline program.

Maybe advanced in age, but not yet grown up ;-)

So..... a trip to Australia for both a honeymoon & to see the F1 grand prix

regards

Ron

Hi JV, thanks for the welcome :)

A very simple itinerary

LHR-SIN-SYD on QF32 on the 16th March. Hoping that PE gives us a little extra relaxation

Couple of days to unwind

Then SYD-MEL on Sunday 20th

After the Grand Prix we come back to Sydney on Tues 29th.

A few days to explore then return to the UK on QF31 on 2nd April

Not much time but while in Sydney a trip on the harbour is a must; the ferry ride to Manly is excellent value, you get to see quite a lot and visit one of Sydney's most famous beaches as well.

I'm sure you will get plenty of other suggestions from the locals on here.

Welcome along Yokel. I have tried the QF Y+ and I am sure it wiill help with the relaxation. I am heading into LHR in May then ferry to Amsterdam so may have some questions you can answer.

Ron
where are you staying in Sydney and Melbourne.
will be able to help out with hints that way. i live in sydney but grew up in melbourne, and am also going to F1.
you should've done a long trip home, and then go to Malaysia and China, they're back to back this year. we are

If I can't answer your questions I'll find someone who can.... ;-)

In Sydney we are on Hyde Park, & in Melbourne we are on Grey St.

We wanted the flexibility of at least small scale self catering, and the current low state of the £ does limit our budgets!

Holiday entitlement & finances preclude our taking such a long way home...... I'm certain it would have been wonderful!

Grey Street ST.KILDA
OR
Grey Street EAST MELBOURNE.

and from Hyde Park you can walk to almost everywhere in the Sydne CBD

I might have to organise a Melbourne dinner and drinks with you as the special guest...

Welcome to AFF

Grey Street ST Kilda..... straight down the road

Very handy to Gate 10!

Gate 10 is great access, even if you are sitting in Fangio (from memory).
you can access all general admission areas too, and gate 10 is great access to the whole back area where you can watch plenty of other corners too.
we only ever sit in grandstand for Qual and Race.
do you have a little FM radio, as you can pick up the commentary or even better hire a Kangaroo TV.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Ooooh ;-)

Thanks for the welcome.

We're both looking forward to our visit very much ( although Mme is getting more than a little stressed about the actual wedding! We should probably both be over nerves at our advanced ages!! )

Handy for all manner of things, from what we've been able to work out, although we'd been primarily looking at Gate 1, since several GP Advantage things reply on early admission through that gate.

We'll be getting Kangaroo TVs, having been very impressed with them when we used them at Silverstone

Gate 1 is good if you need to pick up your tickets there, and for the other things like the thursday pit walk, but you'll have to access to the other gates and all the other general admission areas too. you can walk around the whole track in the GA areas with your ticket, just not any other grandstands.
PS. take your food in with you. the food situation has been going down hill the last couple of years. if you take water, it will have to be without the seal broken. although i have been know to smuggle vodka in wrapped up in other things previously (just not at the bahrain track). there is a Facebook page for the AGP too. that's fun too have a look at.
anything else let me know

Hi Kathe,

Yes, we do have to pick up our tickets, but that's currently planned for the Wednesday afternoon.

We certainly intend to get to see as much of the circuit & facilities as we can. Since we are used to the British GP only being 3 days it will give us more time with the extra day.

Duly noted about the food.... circuits are never very good at the best of times, hence our desire to have accomodation with facilities rather than just a hotel room.

Agreed that the Facebook page is quite fun.... it's actually the only reason I joined Facebook! Although AGP has just stated that she is leaving next week, so not certain if it will continue?

give me a yell if you want handy hints on anything else to do with GP.
have done Melb. since 2000 every year, also Malaysia, China, Suzuka, Mt. Fuji, Singapore and Bahrain

I'd better not mention that to Mme.....

She'll want to know why we can't do that many!! :)

Welcome to AFF Yokel!

Good luck with the wedding and your trip Down Under....
