Not sure where to post this, or whether it is of interest to anyone. Mods feel free to move if appropriate, cheers

For all those who have a google account [gmail, google drive, google photos etc] - they are giving an extra 2Gb to add to your existing quota today if you simply update your security details by doing their 'security challenge'

Its legit, I have done it [my details were all up to date apart from a changed mobile number, took a couple of minutes and the extra storage quota was updated straight away]
Actually I found it quite useful/helpful- its been ages since I checked all the details and it was good to be reminded of my backup contact number and secondary email address.

Link to news article on this, there's a link in the article to take you to the security challenge: Take Google's Security Challenge - WAToday News

Given the move toward mostly paid cloud storage, an extra couple of gigs is always useful when travelling for syncing photos and videos of tanty throwing DYKWIA's while away..

edit: They say its today only, but I wouldn't be surprised if the offer lasts longer. Still...

Awwww, likes all round.

Glad its of use, to be honest if I'd seen it anywhere else I would have thought it was a phishing scam - when I read 'click here to update your security settings and we'll give you something free' my internal radar automatically goes off.

Google is actually pretty good for their paid storage rates - I think the extra 100Gb on my other account is costing me less than 70 Thai baht a month [2 bucks], so its pretty cheap. But for anyone who just has the basic 15Gb standard included storage [as I have on my primary account], an extra 2Gb is nothing to be sneezed at I guess.
Apart from the gmail storage, I use my main google drive to store all my travel itineraries, boarding passes, hotel bookings, trip photos etc etc - so the additional storage is always welcome.

It's exceptionally good value. Boy have we come along way.

AUD2/100GB or AUD10/1TB.

When you run a small business, it's basically your file server.

Couldn't agree more - its only in the past couple of years the prices really became competitive and the allowances worthwhile for small businesses. I run several small websites up here for a couple of local companies, and these cloud plans are a godsend for backups.

I just caught on to this, and they still gave me 2GB as I type so it's probably running at Google HQ time (near SFO).
