Hi,

I'm a AFF newby and a newby to these type of discussion forums too.

I am looking for advice on getting status points as I am 50 short of qantas gold and my next business trip is in June but my status expires in 31st May!

Does anyone know if I book a flight using qantas points do I still get status credits for that flight?

Many thanks and looking forward to being part of this community.

Lynda

Welcome to AFF Lyndaldridge!

You should check out the Qantas forum and SCs run thread on how you can easily achieve 50 SCs. Unfortunately points flights do not earn SCs unless there is a promotion run at the same time but you can use your points for points + pay flights which do earn SCs but sometimes can be poor value. Have a play around with the flight booking engine.

Welcome aboard Lyndaldidge, there is a credit card that gives you some SC's after booking and flying a QF flight, or IIRC Coles fly buys can generate some if you are chasing them for Velocity but I am not very familiar with that programme.

Realistically with the limited time you have, you will probably have to fly to get them in time - there is a status run thread discussing various routes that are better value, only you can decide if Gold status is worth spending the money on.

Assuming QF;
If your travel will be at a similar level next year, and you are only 50 SC's short of the 700 SC's you need the first time this year, it may well be worth a status run as you only need 600 to retain Gold next year and will likely achieve it without doing anything extra.
