Is it true that all Gold members have priority baggage? Because I went on a domestic flight with Virgin and I thought Gold Members had priority check in baggage?
Anyway, mine wasn't (and I'm Gold). Sent off a complaint to Virgin a few weeks ago but haven't received a reply yet

I am always vigilant at the airport, and make a polite mention of priority baggage to the check-in agent. Hasn't failed me yet...

About a month ago I was travelling in J (also as Platinum) from Sydney to Perth and I too was very frustrated to see my bags come out almost last with no priority tags!

Flew into Singapore on BA, flying business class and a gold Qantas FF, my luggage was just about last off which made me miss the last shuttle to my hotel and have to get a taxi, not good

you would have thought it would have automatically put the 'priority' on there.
Maybe this is another thing for the Virgin rep to address internally?

Yes, it is a "benefit"...

I have always had the priority tags on, and sometimes even the bags come out early. Still a bit random though, but on average better than QF.....

Is it possible that you made the reservation at a time when you held lower status? I've had a bunch of reservations made when I was red that I needed to have the status "reapplied" at check-in after I became Gold, then Plat. Unless you happen to present your velocity card at check-in, the agent would never know you were entitled to the priority tag.

Once the correct status is on the booking, I've always received priority tags when travelling VA. One exception (sort of) was with QF staff who run checkin for NZ international in Sydney when I flew with them once did not provide the priority tag (I was distracted filling in the departure card, so I forgot to prompt the agent).

For what it's worth, this seems to extend to other airlines, and can work the other way too - a work colleague who failed to requalify as QF WP has accessed the Sydney F lounge three times since falling back to Gold because his bookings were made early and his boarding pass still prints with WP status on it!

As non of us are perfect I believe we owe it to ourselves to ensure that the tags are placed appropriately.

like everything VA...hit and miss in my experience....:(
Not just DJ but lots of airlines incl QF of course.

Nope. I was gold for a while already.

And Virgin's customer service seems non responsive either... :(

I think I'll sign up for a twitter account...

I travelled from Darwin to Melbourne just over 4 weeks ago, they tagged my luggage "priority" but it came out 5-10 minutes later with the rest of them, and i noticed the platinum PAX's priority luggage did not come out first either. I guess since we arrived at 11.50PM, the baggage handlers at Melbourne Airport were not in the mood or did not give a damn what luggage they were handling or maybe the luggage handlers in Darwin just chuck priority luggage into the "general" group of luggage.

I had the same experience from Melbourne to Darwin. my luggage didn't come out first, let alone the first minute, even though it had the tags on it.

and on both occasions, i flew in the new J class.

Flew J PER-MEL last week bag came out 2nd. Flew back in Y and 'accidently' forgot to take off my priority tag off with the VA check in girl being nice enough to leave it on despite only being silver n Y. Bag came out before I got there! Thought that was pretty good :)

I might just laminate my priority tag and permantly affix it to my bag. Lol.

No not really.

Always pays just to make sure they have slipped the tags on before you leave the check in counter...laminating the tags...love it, let us know if that works out for you :)

Two flights over the week with baggage both tagged priority.

BNE-SYD-BNE

Arrival into Sydney, priority tags did nothing, came out pretty much at the end. However in Brisbane. Priority tags seem to work a treat. Since I was sitting right up the back (next avail flight moved at check in so ended up in row 21) noticed that all the Priority bags were taken off the aircraft seperately and then sent on their own baggage cart ahead. This worked a treat as when I stepped up to the baggage carousel my bag was on its 2nd lap by the look of it. So I was beaten by my own bag!

My bag often beats me;-) (tongue in cheek Mrs Wallacej)
