Heading up to the GC for a few nights late next month.

Any hotel deals floating around that would interest me? I'm a member of A Club but that's it...don't mind joining another hotel program if it will benefit.

Either 4/5 star or serviced apartment ok. I've stayed at Q1 serviced apartments (very good) and the Marriot (ok but a little old) so looking for something a little more stylish/modern perhaps with onsite spa.

When I was looking last week there were some nice rates at the Q1 through www.roamfree.com.au with rates as low as $155 per night (for early Nov) for a 2 bedroom apartment with ocean views.

Palazzo Versace at Main Beach
Sheraton Mirage at Main Beach
Conrad Jupiters at Broadbeach
Sofitel Gold Coast at Broadbeach
Club Watermark at Surfers Paradise
Crown Plaza Gold Tower at Surfers Paradise

These are all 5 star hotels.

Try

there are many 4 star hotels/appartments here.

Have stayed at the Watermark...pretty ordinary rooms IMO.

Palazzo would be nice but it's a bit pricey ($380/n). The casino is a bit tacky but I've heard good things about Crown Tower.

Availability for Chevron and Circle on Cavill is almost nil (for Nov 25/26/27).

Edit: Just realised it's Schoolies week Nov 21-29...mmmmm :-(

Well-timed enquiry (wish I was so lucky!) Hotels.com just started a 72 hour sale in that area, though the time you want to travel is difficult. The Gold coast international looks the pick at $75 a night. The Crowne plaza is also $119 which is pretty good.

With schoolies being on, and the strip being packed with underage kids causing a nuisance, you could try something like the RACV Royal Pines, which is a little further inland. It's 5 stars and ~$165 a night.

Has a nice golf course and spa. Unfortunately the auto club member rates all seem to be gone (RACQ, RACV, NRMA).

That used to be a CP didn't it?

If you are there during schoolies, I'd be heading to Broadbeach and looking at the Mantra Phoenician , Sofitel , Air on Broadbeach, Aria , or Wave.

Phoenician has a fabulous Spa , according to Mrs Max and daughters.
The position is handy to restuarants , casino, shopping centres and probably far enought away from the rabble of schoolies.

Of course , some great Appartments along the beach front at Broadbeach, but be careful and ask if the one offered has been recently refurbished.

Oceana , Boulevard North, La Grande , Verve to name a few.

Sort of. CP converted it for a short amount of time but weren't willing to upgrade it enough, so when RACV offered to buy it, made more sense to the previous owners. (I live next to it).

The upgrades were done when it was a CP, it was just the RACV wanted to manage it without paying a fee to ICH. Rooms are not bad but location is not great unless you are into Golf.

Not to derail the thread, but they did a few upgrades, just not all over. RACV is doing a lot more. I should know :p

As for location, I was thinking during schoolies, distance from Surfers is probably a bonus ;) I certainly wouldn't want to be trying to sleep with "that" noise going on :p

Morgan Stanley was the owner and sold the hotel for what they paid for the whole property, and made another $28M selling the marina and residential property left over to Sunland late last year. ICH only upgrade hotels they own, which is a grand total of 14 world wide, management contracts reuqire the owner to make that investment and in fact the upgrades started before they assumed that management contract in 2005.

For my money, I would be heading to Salt at Kingscliffe, a 1 bedroom apartment at Mantra or Peppers can be had for $99 including breakfast, and its got a patrolled beach.

Salt is fine but certainly isolated. Guess it depends on what OP is looking for. Perhaps even look at bid for rooms as a chance of a bargain

To quote the OP "looking for something a little more stylish/modern perhaps with onsite spa. ", so peppers would suit based on the limited requirements posted.

I like Salt because its modern and a short drive over the hill to the town of Kingscliffe which has that old world charm. There is not much on the coast you can walk to, so being isolated is not the downside it might be in other locations, and the Tugun Bypass makes it even closer!

Without drawing too fine a line on it the Op was talking GC. Even with bypass etc Salt is a long way south & a totally different experience

Yep, same surf, same climate, same distance from OOL, but no high rise shadows at 3PM, no tacky souvenir stores or shops that are totally Japanese/Taiwanese, and unfortunately a lack of korean BBQ's, your right, its is a totally different experience :D, which explains why I am happy to drive the extra 20 mins from Brisbane on the odd weekend away. Failing that, my second choice is Crowne Plaza at Broadbeach, horses for courses.

I just got an email from Hotel Club this morning with specials on "beach escapes". They have the Mantra Bel Air Beach Resort in Broadbeach. Not sure what that's like, but it's $99 a night right now. Haven't checked availability.
