Gold classic award request...

Simply, no.

I don't believe such a privilege ever existed.

It is not even a published benefit for platinum.

However the website does says:
Preferential access to selected Qantas Classic Award seats
Qantas provides preferential access, when available, to selected Qantas Classic Award seats to Silver, Gold and Platinum Frequent Flyers. On selected flights, preferential access for Gold and Platinum members may be above the access available to Silver and Bronze members+.

But Gold has never had ring up release of seats benefit though. Need to be Wap and the get the best chance of manual release of seats need to do it 353 days ahead.

Preferential access is a different matter. More award seats are available for higher status. For example as platinum I've been able to see 1 or 2 classic awards online and bronze family members see none.

How flexible is QF in releasing seats at short notice for WP? I'm anticipating a soft landing to SG at the end of the month and have points to burn. It would be great to know I could get seats released for SYD-LHR or BNE-LAX at short notice. Thanks in advance.

Much less. The further in advance the better. Don't know specifics. By just the general logic of Awwrd availability vs time to departure

Thank you Quickstatus, I'll play it safe and stick with booking 12 months in advance.

Thanks for the info! Can a WP request and use a SG'd points to complete the booking - eg: Mrs. ChrisCunard points for my flight (we have maxed out family transfers).

No a WP can only use their own points to request an award for any passenger but cannot use someone elses points. Bear in mind the on request award seat release for WP " is really an unpublished benefit.

How much points do you need. Sometimes there are large point bonuses for signing up to a new cc. Check these out with the various banks. Pay tax with your cc, etc etc.

currently anz has a 50k bonus with their cc.

Find another "relative" who still has family transfers available and borrow their points.

I got 1 F seat released in early December for travel mid December so it's not all that bad... but I wouldn't rely on it if you must travel.

Correct. It's easy to confuse 'preferential access' as being on request, but it only refers to what you see online.

No not confusing "preferential" with " manual / on request award release", however thats the closest QF will come to in acknowledging the existence of the benefit.

Of course its like any entitlement. Its very difficult to take away. Remaining unpublished allows QF maximum leeway in how it operates the benefit.

I was supporting your statement and was referring to the OP.

Most programs have unpublished benefits. Hyatt allows Diamonds to make a variety of award redemtions without having the required points in their account, but you would never know unless you read FT.

Frankly, the WP on request release is my most valued benefit.

Ok no prob, but I also thought I should rephrase it.

That is indeed the most valued benefit.

I wonder whether these unpublished benefits should be loudly shouted from the rooftops. However it requires a relatively high cost of entry to the club first so there is a natural barrier to the benefit.

Awards on request is a published benefit of platinum 1. For me that marks a clear distinction between preferential access and award requests.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

As I said in another thread the "access to extra award seats" is for plat 1 and not for plat

2 things:

1) and you say this because? I never said it was a platinum benefit!

Awards on request is a published benefit of platinum 1. For me that marks a clear distinction between preferential access and award requests.

2) in this thread I stated that being a separate platinum ONE benefit marks a clear distinction from preferential award access. That distinction holds for all tier levels IMO. As such I don't agreed that preferential awards is acknowledgement of the ability to request awards.
