What is it with me and batteries lately? Delayed on QF1 because of batteries, so I thought I'd start off a trip report.

We all know Lon-Don has the sporting Olympics this year. Little known outside a select circle is that Glasgow has the Radiation Protection Olympics this year; Perhaps not exactly the olympics in style but the International Radiation Protection Association meet every 4 years. And I'm going!

I'm not sure what to report right now. I'm on QF1 today, 10 May connecting to a QF code share on BA to Glasgow at about 10:30 on 11 May. What follows may very well be a week of investigating the radioactivity of peet moss in liquid form. ;). Then I'm with a BA, BA flight back to Lon- Don on 18 May for a weekend with my brother before taking QF2 on 22 May

I was initially booked into the MINT hotel in Glasgow, right next to the Scottish Exhibition and convention center (SECC). But the MINT turned into a Hilton and my very good friend booked a 2 bed room apartment. So I now have 2 nights at the Hilton Garden Inn and 5 night in an apartment nearby. In Lon-Don I'll be at the MGallery St Ermis for 3 nights followed by 1 night at the Mayfair Holiday Inn.

The upgrade to business didn't come in but at least until Singas I have 71 D and E to myself.

Sounds like the lithium batteries have been found and I better leave it there.

Lol! I read the title and thought you were talking about the 2014 Commonwealth Games!

Unfortunately I didn't get a press pass for your event!!

Back into the trip report with something I prepared in the SIN F lounge on 10 May:

QF1 SYD-SIN 71D VH-OQJ - Great to be taken to London on a Queenslander.

Here now in Singas and I must say we were served one of the most disgusting things I've ever seen or tasted in my life for the pre landing snack, picture and details to follow. No welcome from the CSM, unless I was asleep which I like to do for the take off. Once I woke up it was meal service and movie time. The main meal was ok for Y. Italian style braised lamb.

One slightly disturbing thing was being told that my luggage is checked all the way through to GLA, no need to collect it at LHR. That is freaking me out just a little bit, but the F check in desk wouldn't lead me astray. Guess I'm just used to the stories of having to collect and recheck luggage going to the USA. One bit of incorrect advice I received on the SIN-LHR leg was that I wouldn't enter the UK until I got to GLA and hence could buy duty free in LHR. Turns out this was incorrect as I crossed the border during the transfer from T3 to T5.

As it turned out the luggage transferred through to GLA without an issue. But having talked to a colleague, I think I might have been better off doing a self transfer in LHR. They arrived on BA16 and were on the same flight as me LHR-GLA. I was slightly disappointed that I didn't check their travel plans as I could have tried to guest them into the various lounges. They had a seamless transfer between terminals after collecting luggage and transferring via the train. On the other hand I took the bus, boy was that fun.

F check in desk at SYD would only let me check in 4 hours before the flight. This was slightly annoying but it took me an hour to do a couple of tasks like posting stuff and such. I spend the rest of the time waiting in the comfy chairs in the F check in area. The nice lady came over and got me once the flight was open.

I guess the press aren't interested in 1500 people the majority of whom know that nuclear power is safe. ;)

Turns out they had a pretty full on multi media presence, with a Facebook page, twitter collection of questions for speakers and a phone app (that I couldn't get to work) but others found it to be useful.

As promised the most disgusting thing I've ever tasted including one man ration packs. Grilled Vegetable Pizza. Rock like base, minimal tasteless topping. I didn't taste very much of it but it was definitely too much.

wow .... Running in those big silver suits and sealed hoods must be tough.... Do they glow in the dark?

It's not that hard. The powered air supply pumps harder the heavier you breathe. ;)
