.25 points per dollar spent now domestically.

Or $4 for 1 point whichever way you look at it.

Some fees have been reduced.
If you haven't, and are a VGW card holder, check your email.
Now no difference in earn rates to the Qantas system of debit card earnings of points.
Edit: Mods, merge this with the other thread, (just noted one already has been put up on here), I did do a search to see if this had been posted elsewhere, on the travel money branch, but didn't have a look here, on the Virgin Aust branch.

Just noticed it about an hour or so back, didn't realise one post has already here.
Some fees reduced, but I don't take money out of an ATM, so a reduction in ATM fees, or bpay transfer fees would have been of no use to me.
Sad to see that QF QTMC and VA VGW now have the same earn rate.

As if stopping VA-KF conversion didn't upset me already, they change the GW rate.

Might have to activate my QF debit card unless VA gets a major cash injection which is doubtful in the near future

I searched for an appropriate thread to post but none seemed spot on to me Auspooch.

I was annoyed by the change too.

I hope on the OTHER side of this virus some enhancements come our way. 😁

I think who ever at VGW that decided to lower the earn rate, didn't think it out from the point of view of those of us who only use debit cards, via choice or necessity.
At this point, those who apply for the banks credit, and have true credit cards still can earn 0.5 points per Aud$1 spent, domesticlly.
Shows you where their priorities are, debt, debt, debt!
Not to mention the 100,000 sign on bonuses on the range of true credit cards.
Do they (VGW) even know of the QTMC?
At 0.33 the VGW rate was quite good earn rate, compared to QTMC, from now till May anyway.

0.25 is a let down.

Enough places do not take Amex in Australia I guess for me to finally justify taking out a bank issuer VISA.

I do enjoy having only one CC though....

I find the Virgin debit card rather useful good for small amounts, a drop in earn is annoying though.
One thing I do like about the debit card was it always worked to withdraw money from an ATM overseas.
The set up where you received an email for every purchase was handy as well.

I originally wasn't considering this.. but i just decided to withdraw all money in the card - to be sent back to normal bank until the situation clears up... just in case that goes bust too

NAB is good, its a no fee account, with a Visa debit card.
Annoying thing, though, is the many SMS I get, I don't currently (never) have (had) a NAB account/card, but the constant SMS that "my" NAB account will be locked is bad, seeing if I did have a NAB card, it would always play on my mind, is that a real thing/SMS or not, having to check very regularly the SMS on my phone.
ING is the next best one, they did put a message to me that someone in the US had tried to use my card number, don't know how the overseas person successfully got my ING debit card number but the replacement card came quite fast.
If you do have $2000 to spare, the Bankwest mastercard debit is ok I guess, if you can deposit $2000 every month into the account via pay/wage/external transfer, to avoid the $6 monthly fee.
Citibank gets you their overseas call centre, ... ... ... which I don't quite like/agree with!

If anyone finds they have some time spare, go and chase up and see the MCC codes that VGW allows earns on.
The Visa organisation sets this out, its a 4 digit code that all merchants have, and its this 4 digit code that stipulates what earns, and what does not.
Probably why my VGW earn is in fact, much lower than 0.25 points per $1 spent domestically, seeing no flying, no hotels. and local bus transport fares does not seem to count.
Pittance earn, really now, this VGW.
Yes, I went to check the MCC, does not list name of businesses, but it does list types of businesses.
Type MCC into Google, and this Visa info booklet thing will come up, the MCC listings are about half way down.
So, not only have we got reduced earn by the 0.25 points, per $1 spent, the MCC reduces the earn even more!
