AFF. I really enjoy the forum and participation, but am struggling to find a good reason to upgrade my membership level due to the following tech reasons:

Lack of a good mobile website or Windows Phone App (WP8 is the ultimate in a travelers phone in my opinion)
The standard website doesn't work properly with IE10 for Windows RT.

Not sure if others concur. Anyway. I have sent this from WP8. It can be done. But using a desktop optimized website is not pleasant.

Hi all
I am new to the site, and am wondering if it has some limitations on iPad?

Personally I think if you enjoy the forum and have found anything useful at all to help you with your travel goals, then i always give back. In my case I paid for the highest membership the day I made my first post after lurking for quite a while. A small price to pay for a) supporting an Australian owned business b) helping to maintain a better site

Yes there may be faults every now and then and things we'd like to see run better, but overall I am very happy. I haven't utilised anything the membership offers, but I'm ok with that.

No limitations on the ipad, but you need to enlarge the app to make it full screen (as it's designed for phones) and I find the visibility clear enough. As an Apple user, I find the normal phone app excellent, apart from a few hiccups in the last updated version (like scrolling updated posts)

I enjoy the forum, but do not access on work equipment. Hence, I'm using my phone and my devices at home. I guess the point I am trying to make is that unless you have specific devices, you get no joy - why should I upgrade to premium? Having mobile apps is great - but it would be greater to have a mobile site first (as did Qantas and Virgin) and meet everybody's needs, and then focus on specific apps, rather than go down the app path first. A bug fix in the code for IE10 users on Windows RT (can't vouch for Windows 8 - I'm a Mac User on the desktop) would also be great.

BTW - I can vouch that it works fine on the iPad as a former iPad user.

Glad you enjoy AFF :)

We actually do have a mobile site which our GOLD and SILVER members can use. See http://www.australianfrequentflyer....ements/new-mobile-mode-viewing-aff-28527.html. To be honest, it is not used very much as most of our mobile users prefer the iPhone or Android Apps. (Unfortunately we don't yet have a Windows phone App. We use Tapatalk for our Apps - hopefully they will develop one in the future. There has been some requests - see Windows Phone 8? | Tapatalk Support)

We do also offer a SILVER trial for $5. That way you can see if the Mobile site is useful to you.

Will give it a go - I missed that. The IE10 carriage return issue on Win RT is strange. I missed being able to update the community live on my travels to Europe with MI, SQ, AY, DY, KF and SK.

BTW - Will get the WP8 Nerd community onto this.

+1

When the cost is less than the value - Winner!

I am struggling with all the ad on this site and how intrusavly they are placed throughout .. WoW, can you jam any more onto a forum page? It is a big turn off to use this site..

So pay for the membership, that gets rid of them. Nothing is free in this world except air!

easy to fix, pay the membership fee ;)

The information and knowledge shared on here definitely makes up for the small contribution

The reason why I have not upgraded my membership is the fact I change my phone on a regular basis and currently I am using a Windows 8 but probably my next phone will be a BlackBerry Z10 but I could go back to Andriod as well.

All the ads :)
(once you are logged in, so that AFF can recognise you are a paid member)
If you pay, does it get rid of ALL the ads, or just some of them?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

AFF Supporters can remove this and all advertisements

Yes, quite right. There are no ads on the Forum pages but the home page (The Australian Frequent Flyer Online Community - The Australian Frequent Flyer) and the "content" pages (e.g. The Australian Frequent Flyer Online Community - Calculating the Dollar Value of Airline Status) still have ads. This is not by design but due to the way vBulletin works. The vast majority (99.99%) of AFF pages are in the Forum, so carry no ads.
Most of the ads actually. The AFF homepage still has ads ( or sponsored links :) )

I am not using an enlarged app - I am running this natively on an iPad.

Thanks guys.. I will check out the paid options..

Just my first impressions was that all the ads did turn me off the site.. Maybe a lot of other new visitors feel the same way then they first come here.

That's possible, but a lack of ads could mean there'd be no site to see, if there was no revenue stream to keep the site active ;)
