Hi there FF's

Apologies for my confusion in advance.....I have recently made Platinum and I noticed one of the benefits was that I could gift a Gold and then Platinum Membership if I reached a certain status credit points amount (1500 for Gold and 2000 for Platinum). Does this mean that I have to earn an additional 1500 points (on top of the 1000 I have just earned) within the next 12 months so I can gift a Gold, or does this mean I only have to earn another 500 on top of my existing 1000 SC's?

I know there is probably a T&C somewhere buried in the web but I know someone from FF will probably answer quicker than it would take me to launch a cyber search.

It is additional. That is, you need another 1500 SC.

This was the subject of much discussion and confusion a few months ago.

I think you are better off 'family pooling' if you can use that option!!

On Aug last year I became Platinum and all my SC went to Zero, this year when I hit 2000 SC in Feb I got Platinum for Mrs Mickeyc and have since family pooled to my kids.

You have to earn 1500 AFTER you get to platinum. Although the first 800 of this requalify you for platinum. There is no point in family pooling until you have retained status and at that point the difference becomes relatively minor (700 SCs v 500 SCs) and has the advantage of the comped person not having to meet the minimum number of flights requirement. YMMV but for Mrs 777 and I it just seemed easier to go with the partner option.

I've got around 4,000 SC's. Already gifted plat to the wife. Still got 6 months to go on my earning year. Wondering what to do. Not sure what advantage family pooling would have for me. My 7 year old doesn't need gold status....

Agree however for a minute then I thought I had made a bad decision, however after some mathematics I think my family pooling is the best thing for us. (wife and myself)

This is a little odd as my anniversary date is October and I didn't go back to zero.:?:

I would happily take 250 SC off your hands so that I could make gold for my upcoming Europe Y trip on SQ - the Lounge access would be a godsend!!!!

That is when you adopt someone and gain a new 'family member' ;)

Failing that - keep flying and hold out hope that DJ introduce lifetime memberships at some stage!

Could you possibly "sell" the gold or platinum membership???

Officially no..... unofficially there are more ways to skin a cat!!

I just recently used 100,000 points for my daughter for a J leg on an international sector in September this year. I keep reminding her she owes me 100,000 points (or $3800) ... I'll take it either way..... (hmmm.. maybe I should have used a different phrase)

Nothing to do with membership but if you want to make money?? :)
