Anyone got the best way to use the $88 cards for a 5k rate payment.

It doesn't have post bill pay so I can't use PayPal
It's only got its website portal with visa and Mc only

It's got a scannable barcode at Aust post.
Would this be what I scan at the self serve terminal

Obviously I can't scan 50 cards at a manned cashier.

Do you like your council? If not, you could always go to their cashier. You probably wouldn't even be their most annoying customer for the day when you think about some of the complains councils handle.

I tweeted my local council about paying the rates in advance, no can do.

They then tweeted me to tell me that they no longer occur one-off payment and only 4 installments - Due to community feedback. Now I really feel like saving my cards and going in there and paying $100 at a time.

Wow the entitlement and laziness of some older Australians...

Just went back to the same Coles, this time only got 5 of the MCs went to self serve. Same older lady was there. As I asked her to come to approve it, she was saying... 'oh you again.. when do these end?, Now young man next time you buy these please go to the bigger checkout, I don't want you to have to call me to come over and for me to approve these each time."

Wow! Just wow!

Suggest you now buy 1 card at a time at the self checkouts.

I don't like all councils! I guess I could go down but I'll bet my luck they'll have maximum number of cards allowed introduced just for me on that day

Just been asked for photo ID to buy 3 CGMCs. I must say taking my DL to photocopy seemed a bit over the top(though that particular store has done it to me before)

Some JB Hifi do this when buying phones with 40* $30 gift cards. I mean come on, it's not my fault woolworths didn't have any $100 denom cards in stock

One JB near me only accepts 5 at a time. This can be circumvented slightly by paying online. Even then, max 5 GC to a value of $500 each.

Yet some people actually have long and fulfilling careers in retail. But okay.

Her behaviour on this occasion was inappropriate IMHO. I'd be disappointed if I heard a staff member speak to a customer like that or if it was brought to my attention that such a thing had occurred.

I hogged a self-service machine for 30 mins yesterday paying various things including rates and using up around 26 cards. Each takes about a minute.

Before paying my rates I checked that it was possible and was told that some councils have bar codes that are scannable and others don't. Fortunately mine did.

I haven't seen this mentioned already. I bought some CGMCs on the weekend and bonus 1000 FB points have already credited to my FB account dated day after purchase. Well done FBs!

I just received my NSW land tax bill. Has a post bill pay barcode on it. Was planning to use self serve to pay it. Scanned it and told me to pay it at the counter.
I've found many career posties ruthlessly enforce the no eftpos GC at the counter 'rules'. Going to pay mine online with my Visa. Reduced point earn but better than nothing.
Appears that most bills can be paid at self serve but some can only be paid at the counter. Not sure how they decide.

Again wtf I went to the flagship Australia Post shop, I wasn't even paying bills, I purchased a padded bag costing $1.10. When I got out the eftpos card he stopped me and said what card is that. I said EFTPOS, he prevented me from paying with it. I asked why, he said some thing about it won't work and we had word about it not working blah blah... Omg!!

What is with Australian older workers?

Susiquently I just went over to the self serve counter and processed my council bill with 3x $88 cards with no problems.

For Australian sake! Omg!

Got a link for self service aus post offices..... I went to the AU post website but could not find them?
Can the local newsagent that is au post office service allow gift cards for post bill pay?.... Water bill

I'm not sure how the employees' age in either of these scenarios is relevant.

Australia Post is entitled to refuse EFTPOS gift cards as a payment method. They've even told you not to use it. Yet you do so against their wishes - you can't complain when you get stopped.

From some of the things you've said on this thread, if the same attitude comes across when you're purchasing things in-store, I'm not surprised the staff are exasperated and unwilling to assist.
