Did you buy them all?

Ah no.. Didnt have enough giftcards, and frankly did not see an immediate use for them...

Still needed to think of a quick / efficient way to monetise them (ie manufactured spend) rather than buying the few i needed for some immediate purchases (air ticket / furniture)

Anybody in Canberra find any coles cards?
None in Curtin or Woden...or it was hit before 10am today
You can PM location if you don't want to broadcast :)

Has any one tried over paying a bill with eftpos/visa/mc gift cards then asking for a refund? Just a thought.

Hi exceladdict,

So went to my local woolies today, looked at the GC stand - couldn't see any fixed value prepaid visa or mc. Asked one of the staff - they said to ask the people at the smokes counter, they might be kept there. Not sure if they got confused with the non-fixed value? But either way - if not on the GC stand no way to purchase without staff intervention. I might have a look at another store, to see if it was just an anaomly at my local store.

However they did have the fixed value "only 1" Visa cards on the GC stand. Do you know if they can be purchased with wish gc's?

My plan is to buy a eWISH card and try at the self service to buy one with the wish card, if it doesn't work no major loss, left with a discounted wish card.

Just was wondering if you knew prior to me trying.

The Only1 cards are the ones I was referring to - fixed value of $100 plus $5.95 fee. You should be able to buy these at a selfcheckout to a total value of less than $500. Sorry for any ambiguity.

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Can someone please clarify?

If I have a 1.5 point per $ card I would earn ~362 Velocity points that I'd struggle to use otherwise I would only earn ~241 Velocity points?

Isn't that a lot of effort for very little return? And yes I do understand that everyone values points differently.

If you card earns 1.5points/$ - then $100=150pts under your card rewards system
flybuys points are different 2000=870. So if you spend $100=100pts=43.5 velocity (not including any bonus points)

These gift cards usually have activation fee of around $5-$6, but you currently get fly buy points to compensate 2000=$10.

Also a lot of us have the Platinum Edge, which is 3pts/$, and then there's savings from avoiding surcharges.

Which you can then use at places that do not accept Amex or charge surcharges for using it.

Plus you gain some status credits for Etihad (which may or may not be of use).

Also, allows one to give a CC to an under 18yr old with a limited liability AND they can be used overseas. Such as the recent 'fee-free' offer for overseas spending through to 31 Dec.

Just to report back Exceladdict - ran into no problems purchasing the above. Thanks again for your help.

On a side note - can any GC from woolies be purchased via a gift card at self checkout without intervention if <$500 ???

For anyone collecting $100 Coles Gift MasterCards, don't forget to check the expiry date. The ones that I've bought are good until September next year, but I've seen some that expire next month. (OK if you have a near-immediate use for them, I guess.)

Good point.

Worst I've seen is 05/17.

Best I've seen is 09/18.

Tuggeranong still had some today, although some of those had an expiry date of 03/17.

If you're looking for a lot, maybe try Queanbeyan, on the basis that Woolworths there had a quite a few of the special $88 EFTPOS cards recently. Perhaps the good folk across the border have better things to do than run around buying gift cards.

For my situation it is only worth it because I can put the purchase on my Edge at 3pts/$ - otherwise I totally agree with you, not worth the effort!

Apologies. A 1.5 point per $ Amex card would earn 3 points per $ at Coles and a 1 point $ Amex card would earn 2 points per $ at Coles? I included a 15% bonus transferring to Velocity.

The Flybuys earning would compensate the activation fee in the card. That I understand but still think the 2,000 Flybuys points for $10 shopping voucher would be much better use of Flybuys points than 870 Velocity points.

So the net gain on this deal would be the Amex points for purchasing the Coles Mastercard?
