Hi All

Does anyone know what the largest denomination Myer gift cards you can get through Woolies (or associated shops) in the ACT?

I was hoping to find cards worth more than $100 as I need to pay for something which is $3800.

LOL if it's any consolation when I purchased my Surface tablet Woolies ran out of $100 JB Hifi gift cards and I ended up buying 31 $50 gift cards, which is almost as bad as that.

Don't you need to be a member of a company scheme or similar that is run by Reward Gateway? I didn't think they had a "retail" face so to speak.

Thats the theory though not sure how hard they restrict this if you "come across" an access code!.

My local Woolies in Vic sells at least $200 ones. They may have larger, but $200 was all I needed last week.

So should be the same in the ACT.

I will just have to go to a few more stores. I actually saw $200 ones in Adelaide last week (after asking the question) but wasn't game to carry 4k worth of vouchers with me.

Yep. Work with a colleague that owns a couple of 7/11's. The operators were frauding the system where they would pull the POS from power at the time of transaction of something like that to steal the cash...

So help me understand this, if QF or VA have a sale, I can get 10% off by buying cards at WOW and also get 3ppd by using a Plat Edge. Who's taking the loss here, I can't see how Flight Centre make money out of this!

No. There's already a 5% card activation fee when you purchase the cards in the first place.

Also a surprisingly large (shockingly large) amount of gift cards expire unused totally as well as a number expiring with remaining amounts on them.

One of the 'suspected' black holes for gift cards is when people go overseas on holiday/work. The normal action is to empty out the non-essential cards etc from the purse/wallet and put them away in a 'safe' place.

Too often they turn out to be 'too' safe a place and the cards are lost for extended periods. I know of someone who put away nearly $600 in gift cards AND found them in a 'great hiding place' with one week to go on their expiry date. Spring cleaning really paid off in her case!

The other aspect for the cards is the time value of money - unless you're an astute AFFer who manages the gift card purchasing closely then the money goes today and the company gets to use your money before you've spent anything on products.

Not such a big profit contributor these days but go back 10 years and it added some tens of millions for both Coles & WoW.

I'm one of the keen gift card buyers and keep track of everything. I know roughly how much I will spend in gift cards per month. I buy a months worth at a time and then by the time the entry turns up on my credit card statement, I have already spent the funds.

Yes, like us, you are the person they do not like much.

The roundabout of Coles $300 card used to buy Coles/Myer (for petrol & Myer), Bunnings, Good Guys, JB Hi Fi (want a new fridge/freezer..., etc). Or the WoW $300 cards used for the gift cards that Coles don't stock.

Just a shame that you don't get points on gift card purchases using a gift card. I can dream... <Yes, I know an infinite source of free flights, so never happening.>

Also are very useful, as rigid plastic does not scratch glass nor take off paint from car panels.

Very good for scraping paint off edges on wooden framed windows for example, cleaning small leaf litter/muck from around body panels on cars etc.

Unfortunately as they are so durable we source enough each year to last a lifetime.

One day I'm going to challenge the family to who can build the tallest giftcard tower (like playing card stacking).

On a somewhat related note, I'm surprised (well, sorta) that cardlimbo.com.au went out of business. They could've done well for themselves but they never seemed to have been bothered to try and grow the business. Their website was perennially coughtacular, and they never did figure out the problem with postage (They stuck with retail-pricing Australia Post when they could easily have done a deal with a courier, or gotten business account rates at the very least).
