Gift Cards at Supermarkets

Trying to find a better way to get points. Is IAG selling visa prepaid and if so is anyone aware of shops in Brisbane that sell these (as I went in one local IAG yesterday and they looked at me sideways and said NO) and does the store take Amex (thus 3 MR points that I can send to Singapore).

If not is the 7 eleven the best bet (at only 2 points per $).

I just purchased on Wish Cards through RACQ and was once again able to purchase via Amex card with no surcharge or shipping/postage cost with 5% discount. They have changed the process for ordering, requiring you to be logged in to the RACQ web site first to get the appropriate link to the membergiftcards site. Perhaps enough people complained and they saw a decline in the number of cards being sold?

Yep, covered in another thread: http://www.australianfrequentflyer....ccepted-or-surcharge-6391-67.html#post1235891

Woolworths offering 10% off on some gift cards until Tues. Includes flight centre cards (NOT A PREPAID VISA ANYMORE) it's now a store card that can only be used at flight centre. Max 10 cards per customer. $75 and $150 dollar denominations ($3.75 and $7.50 activation fees respectively). If purchased with discounted WISH cards this is effectively 10% off AND triple Amex points at flight centre. Disclaimer: i haven't actually done this as i prefer to book direct with the airline. It did appeal to me while I was checking out my groceries this afternoon but I was strong.

That could be useful. Mrsdoctau is a teacher, who get a lot of the same discounts at StudentFlights, and they're owned by Flight Centre. I wonder if any of their flights are cheap enough that I'd pick them over using points for J...

Amex is offering $5 cashback on $15 7/11 spend. Buy $305.50 VPay card get 611 MR on Plat Edge, get $5 cashback. Works with bank Amex too.

I saw that offer for my bank issued cards. What is the benefit of a VPay card? I see with Plat Edge you get 2 points/$ on the spend whereas I would just score my normal 1.5/$.

Presumably the $5.50 part of the cost is the activation fee so the $5 statement credit mostly covers that.

I think I'm missing something here.....

The first thought is that the prepaid is a Visa so can effectively get amex points at other merchants. I'm not aware that there is a way to turn the prepaid visa into cash-equivalent which would be really interesting

Getting Amex earn rates at merchants/billers that don't accept amex or have a massive surcharge, not to mention getting double points up front with plat edge.

Thanks. I'd be buying an extra 0.5 point/$ then for 50c, that being the difference between the activation fee and the statement credit.

Sounds like that might work :). I assume VPay cards are valid for 12 months, is that right?

Isn't the VPAY card a virtual card though? that is, you just get sent the CC number/pin/CVV/expiry to enter into websites.

Wouldn't be able to use it at local places that don't like amexes.

Plenty of online uses that only take Visa/Mcard though!

Has anybody tried the mastercard sold at Woolies? I think it cost $4.95 and it can be loaded up to $500. How does it compared to the 7/11 Vpay card? Isn't this one better considering we get 3 points per dollar?

No joy there as Woolies does not let you use credit card to buy the prepaid MasterCard.

Vpay is annoying to use due to online registration required for every card. Negates the benefit depending on how much you value your time

I use Firefox for registration and it saves all my answers, takes about 3 minutes per card, definitely worth it with the 7/11 offer, you are paying $0.50 to earn 611 Amex Points (Plat Edge).

Hi All

Does anyone know what the largest denomination Myer gift cards you can get through Woolies (or associated shops) in the ACT?

I was hoping to find cards worth more than $100 as I need to pay for something which is $3800.

Don't you need to be a member of a company scheme or similar that is run by Reward Gateway? I didn't think they had a "retail" face so to speak.
