Yes 10% has been out there for Woolies and David Jones. The Woolies ones are for a short time only.
Where were the 10% off Woolies gift cards available from? Need to keep an eye out for next time.

Cant remember sorry, as it was expired I didn't take a note, but from memory I think I found it via OZBargain.

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

It's a shame, as this time the only trick to getting 2k points was buying a card, I was actually aiming to buy a $50 gift card instead of $100 (same fee, same reward, just a few less CC points). Alas, only $100 were available.

I would've settled for a $50 EFTPOS card had I not found a $100 one. It'll be used wherever Amex isn't accepted, to maximise the points return.

In hindsight, I wish I'd taken the recent Amex / Westfield XS card deal to the max, instead of just the minimum Amex spend required per card.

Got screwed a bit at Coles today... picked up a few bunnings gift cards. Went to use them and turns out they weren't activated. Bunnings says not our problem, took them back to Coles and they said we can't verify if you used them or not so not our problem

That is really annoying - hope they weren't too big a value. Did the Coles receipt say the cards successfully activated?

Only $40 fortunately so no big loss. The Coles receipts have the two activation notes on them.

I did ask for the store manager to call during business hours so we'll see if they do anything, not holding my breath though.

Wow. Good luck getting it sorted.

Can you check the balance online? If you can prove they were spent before you bought it. Also I have recently had some cards bought at WOW (not bunnings though) take 24hrs to activate

I don't think this is possible.

Bunnings gift cards are a little different. They never expire and you can get 'change' back from them if you don't spend them all at one time.

Yeah they're more like old school gift vouchers. And the staff keep them when they're used.

The Coles system is a bit stupid. Nowhere on the receipt does it actually have the number of the gift card printed so I can see Coles point that they can't verify if the cards are actually the same as the ones they sold... but they should fix the system

The Coles receipt has the last numbers of the Bunnings gift card on it, I don't have one handy at the moment to check how many numbers, but the gift cards are easily identifiable on the Coles receipt, they just have no way of checking whether you've used them or not without contacting Bunnings which they should be able to do since they are all under the Wesfarmers umbrella.

Ouch, did you pay using another gift card or credit card? If it is credit card I would just dispute the transaction and let them handle it from there, would be more tricky if you paid for it with another gift card.

Win some and lose some I guess.

I did notice nowadays most of the stores have a sign saying please use the manual counter for purchasing gift cards as sometimes they are not activated properly, albeit it does have the drawback that most staff won't let you buy gift card with another gift card.

It was with a Coles gift card (purchased during the myer Amex offer).

Part of me wonders if that was the problem. I regularly buy bunnings cards from Coles (for the platinum edge bonus) and have never had a problem.

FWIW, I've bought quite a few Bunnings GC's using CG&M GC's (also obtained at a discount; thanks Amex!), and the closest I've come to having a problem was this morning. I scanned a $20 one at the self-service checkout and it came up as "Invalid Item". Took it to the service desk, and it also scanned as invalid. Staff member said to go and grab another one, which I did, and it scanned just fine (and has since been used OK at Bunnings).

Do you still have the Coles gift card? If so, it might be worth checking if it has any value left on it.

The cost of the Bunnings card may not have been deducted if they didn't activate.

Chances are low, but worth a shot.

Coles have a new prepaid MasterCard out "coles brand" a little cheaper than the gift card this card costs $5 as appose to$5.95 in fees but you can still buy on amex 3 points per dollar I wish Woolworths would bring out something similar

hi wanting to check if you could still buy a prepaid [visa/master] (no need reloadable) at Coles on the Amex?

Yes you can. But there will be a charge to buy them. Best wait for a rewards offer.
