So I want to buy a large item at David jones - can I use multiple gift cards online through the qantas online mall? I don't want to be left with a bunch of gift cards I can't use.?

4 per transaction last time I checked

Apparently onlinemall doesnt accrue points when using gift cards :(

Which leaves me with the dilemma - do i just purchase through online mall and take the 10points per $ plus any points i will earn on my credit card.

Or do i buy supermarket gift cards where i can get 10% off staff discount and take them instore to make my purchase -

The supermarket only seems to offer cards in denominations of $50 or $150 so i would need to use 10 of them anyway.

Coles have a new prepaid MasterCard out "coles brand" a little cheaper than the gift card this card costs $5 as appose to$5.95 in fees but you can still buy on amex 3 points per dollar I wish Woolworths would bring out something similar

Interesting. Very interesting.

They charge a 3% forex fee. My CB Signature Visa has a 3.3% fee. That arbitrage nearly pays for a $1000 loading of the card for an overseas trip, and the 3 points per $ would tip things in the gift card's favour, especially since you'd not be "losing" out on the cents rounding down that both Amex and CB do in terms of points earn.

It's also not a bad way to be able to turn a lot of 1 point earn into 3 point earn via the Amex edge, with the added bonus of having more airline transfer partners.

Be interesting to find out if you could pay ATO on the card, though not so convenient if you had very large bills, as you're limited to just $1000 per gift card.

My excitement levels dropped a little bit when I read

How to use your Gift Card

To make a transaction at a point-of-sale terminal usingthe Gift Card, you’ll need to swipe the card, press “CR” or“Credit” and enter your PIN. The PIN is under the scratchpanel on the back of the Gift Card. If you press “Savings”or “Cheque”, your transaction will be declined.

Has anybody seen any Flight Centre gift cards recently? The Coles, Big W and Woolworths at Macquarie Centre used to stock them up to a few weeks ago, but they've completely disappeared now.

It looks like the prepaid gift card (not the reloadable which is no good for these purposes) is only available instore at $50 and $100 denominations. Looks like you can order online for up to $1000 but would an online order still trigger the supermarket bonus?

Most likely. Online orders from coles and wollworths get the supermarket rate of 3 points per $. Dans even gets that rate, and masters lets you earn 2 points per $.

It'll depend on what merchant code is recorded.

i'd be interested in hearing if anyone has bought one online.

Went a bit further on another dummy run. Amex (nor Diners) not accepted :(.

Therefore would have to be a high yield Visa/MC to make it considerable for govt spend (not to mention the fiddliness)

Still around in my local Coles/Wow - but you are aware that there is a 5% surcharge on them?

Yes, but I'd use my WISH gift cards purchased with Platinum Edge through the Entertainment Book to offset the 5% activation fee at Woolworths or Big W. I'll try some other Woolworths stores.

Just noticed there is a $40 off $200 DJ spend offer on Amexconnect-may be of use

Given past experience people may be wary of this but here goes anyway!

Big W Deal of the Day | Groupon

I bought 1 x $200 and 1 x $100 yesterday. Waiting for them to be emailed out. The terms & conditions from Woolworths say that they are Big W store egift cards and will not work at other Woolworths branded stores, so it will be interesting to see if that is correct.

Woolworths have got Flight Centre gift cards 10% off this week. I picked up 3 x $150 cards to pay the last portion of our family cruise holiday.

Just glimpsed a WOW store special for this week catalogue. Buy a gift card (quite a few were mentioned), get $10 off next shop, scan yr rewards card. DJs, Good Food, Bras n Things, Accor escape etc.

Call me a cynic but somehow I doubt it, Big W store cards and e-gift cards have worked in the past at all Woolworths branded stores. So I doubt that they would be able to identify these particular BigW e-gift cards and be smart enough to get the coding right.

But it's only my experience that WW terms and conditions are frequently aren't enforced that is in play here, YMMV and you should take into account your own risk tolerance and willingness to have to deal with BigW if I'm wrong.

The extra 2.5% isn't worth the hassle (not to mention missing out on Plat Edge bonus points) to me based on the Groupon offer shennanigans last year

I agree with this but if Entertainment Book offered like last year Id be on to it in a flash!
