Gift Cards at Supermarkets

Just got back from woolies
I bought 100 now.
I miscointed the number they had and after I had finished they still had 200 odd left.

I unfortunately don't have a Plat edge yet it's on the way so had to use the Explorer but I couldn't wait if they sold out

Now to find what the best thing to use it on would be

Would there be anyway to use these to replenish my maxed out amex card???

I suppose the mathematically best way to spend them is to cash them out which I don't think is possible
And the next best way is to use them at places that either don't accept amex or surcharge

What's everyone else spending it on

You couldn't wait incase they sold out but you don't know how you are going to use the cards?

Probably best to work out what you are going to do with them before you buy them, and definitely best to buy with discounted wish cards.

These types of deals come along semi regularly.

FYI I have found large orders of WISH cards tend to require manual intervention and take a long time, especially if they are multiple cards (I waited around five days and they sent me a spreadsheet).

I too have now found this! Order came through around 36 hours after placing it, of course while I was at work. Been on a run tonight and found 2 stores sold out, stores with 10, 12 and 18 (which are now sold out ) and a store with more than I could count. Interstingly, the store with 10 had prevously been empty (on Weds night) and the one with 18 left had no-one dedicated to the self serve check out area, I haven't seen that before. At the one with more than I could count I grabbed 30, and had a person politely inform me I could only buy 10. Luckily I was scanning number 17 by then so they let me go to 20, I gave back the last 10 and will head back tomorrow.

Only 1 Perfect Gift card offering in 2016 if I remember correctly.

The Coles Prepaid MasterCard deals have been targeted.

Make hay whilst the sun shines I say :)

I'm up to 30 cards. Been struggling to find them.

I haven't found any at the stores I usually go to. I'm waiting for the Coles offer. Hope I'm targeted again.

I do have heaps of bills to pay. Which I could use them for. But mathematically the best is to use them for visa only purchases. Which I don't do much of.
But I'll find a way :)

YMMV but I have an issue holding on to these for too long (wallet too thick / risk of holding cash / loss of interest against offset account / general mistrust of gift card issuers). So I'd be looking to burn them asap.

That said one or two might become my 'coffee' cards, saving my local small businesses the amex surcharge.

I've been having a think. (yes I'm sad)

The best way would be to pay off credit if possible so if you could pay your amex bill off with these it would work well. However there is a fee to process them over the counter.

Or alternatively you could use them to pay all your bills where possible.

Obviously depends if you have many bills or not.
Some have been mentioning not being able to partial pay bills at the post office

Literally just paid mine and noticed this fee. Never used to have the fee, paying at post is how I avoided it. I wonder how long I have been paying it without noticing.

I am quite upset that Macquarie have added this on, I consider it gouging and will be complaining to our property manager.

Just had a look and my last levy notice (oct) did not have the fee. So yes, it looks like this method for clearing eftpos GCs is now dead, or far less lucrative, especially without a promo.

Just looked at The Entertainment Book for ecards. A $500 value adds an extra $25 cost for a Wish card. Is there a current method to buy via a supermarket to get Amex Edge 3pts per $, and or, no add on charges? I haven't bought any like this before.

I assume this card can be use to pay ATO BAS at auspost ? scan ato bill barcode, and pay $88 - and repeat the process again ?

Can buy them on the cash rewards site. Will then redirect you to Woolies' site for the transaction. Get them for 5% off and in my experience, count as 'supermarket' spend for Platinum Edge. They sometimes have promos so you can get them as much as 5.75% off face value.

Cashrewards wish cards for 5% off, which counts as a supermarket category spend for amex, then this current perfect GC promotion (normally you'd lose 1% due to 5% discount but 5.95 fee). Cashrewards has $5 referral bonuses, I'll post one in the referral thread now

Edit: albyd beat me to it

If it accepts postbillpay and there's no surcharge, this sounds like a good option.

Thanks. Is egift cards the way to go, and then at the cashier / self service, type in some number they send on the phone?

Yep, eGift card is the way to go. I get them e-mailed to me and by accessing my e-mail on my 'phone it's a trivial matter to copy and paste the 19-digit eGift card number from the attached PDF to the Woolworths Money app. To use at the checkout you select the eGift card payment option and key in the 10-digit in-store version, plus PIN. Simples. :)

Yes it was introduced late 2016, at least in mid 2016 there wasnt a $2.75 fee per payment (per scan). Back then even buying the perfect gift card $105.95 with 5% off (which means less than $1 for 300 odd points) egift seems ok if you have a 3ppd card.

Only worth it with bonus promo like this now unless anyone knows of a way to truly split payment on AusPost

Simples indeed. ;) Now, if only we could find some $88 gc in CBR.
