Hi folks

I understand that Va blocks rows 10 and 11 for these flights each way until checkin.

But I thought that gold and plat were able to access these? If so, how do I go about doing it? The call centre insists that they are blocked and cannot be allocated. Is that correct?

The CSA can see in row 10 for the outbound flight has some seats allocated, but row 11 is still blocked.
On the return, both 10 and 11 are blocked.

Thanks!

I (platinum) was automatically allocated row 10 at booking. I was able to call and switch to row 11.

Maybe there's something specific to your exact flight (16 plats travelling together!?) but it should be possible for the call centre to help out.

Mr Jurahn booked a return flight in PE to LAX for early next year (he is going out through BNE and coming back via SYD) - when he made the booking a few months ago, he was still Silver and the only row he could select from was Row 14, everything else was showing as blocked in both directions. He reached Gold a few weeks ago and was able to ring the call centre and select seats in Row 11 with no problems. Other seats were already allocated in Rows 10 and 11 in both directions, and the call centre didn't mention anything about those rows being blocked.

Thanks folks,

Update goes like this.... I called again and insisted that I was entitled to have pick of the map, got a knock back, then asked to speak to a super. So she went away for 5 mins, and came backand said her "support" said they are blocked, so no can do. I asked again for a supervisor, and then she went away for another 5 mins, came back and said the support managed to do it, but row 10 is full for the outbound, but secured it for the return. Hmmmm....

I asked to speak to a supervisor and passed my dissatisfaction on to her that only after multiple attempts and 45mins on hte phone was i able to partly get what i was after. She said inwas definitely entitled to a pick of the seatmap and it wasnt goodnthat i had to escalate to get some action. Was apologetic and asked me to fill out a feedback form. She double checked on the outbound and said it was actually still blocked for operational reasons.

Just cross your fingers you get to keep your seat,

I flew today MEL - LAX and had pre selected 10a, when I got to the gate, beep beep, thought I was in for an upgrade. No I had been moved to 14a, which sucks as those seats don't recline as far and I was now right in front of a baby in economy.

It appeared that I had been kicked out due to a couple with a baby, I guess that is always the risk when you select a bassinet row.

Changed my return to 11a to be safe.

An update on this one - it seems it pays to make sure the seat selections have actually been put on the system after ringing the call centre. I just had a look at Mr Jurahn's itinerary on Check My Trip to see whether there'd been time changes for any of the flights, when I noticed his seats for the legs to and from LAX were still the original ones he'd been allocated in Row 14!!!

I went onto the VA website to check the reservation there and sure enough, he was still seated in those original Row 14 seats. Going into "Change Seat" and having a look at the map, luckily the seat he'd chosen in Row 11 on the way out was still available, but the seat he'd selected for the return trip wasn't, which is pretty annoying - I don't know whether the call centre person he spoke to didn't save them in the reservation or whether they were put in but a "bug" in the system didn't register the changes, but just as well I checked!!

Just as a matter of interest, all vacant seats in Rows 10 and 11 were available for selection on both legs (I guess the seat map had "opened up" now that hubby is Gold).
